- Description: Ever vigilant the red shoulder hawk stands watch over the Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge. The sign reads Area Closed and he is there to make certain no one goes beyond that sign. Surveying all he sees, the Floridian island of Sanibel is his domain. This photo was taken in the spring of 2005 with a Canon Rebel G film camera and is one of my last traditional nature photography projects. Digital resizing and cleanup done in Photoshop CS.

- The full name of the refuge is the J.N. "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge. Darling was a political cartoonist who used to draw cartoons about the ever dwindling wildlife habitats and man's affect upon them. He loved going to Florida so they named a refuge after him on Sanibel Island.
