Casey lounged in an empty train seat. The train itself had long since ceased running, and now sat to collect rust. She enjoyed sitting here to think. Her father was a busy, stressed man, and usually took it out on her and Rovanna, her sister. Her mother was always at his side, soothing and calming him.
This was Casey's private escape. The old train tracks were no longer used, and the trains that once run on them are either sitting there, or harvested for scrap metal.
Now that Casey thought about it, Rovanna had begun to act strangely. She had become more and more stolid, even when her father wasn't ranting. She had begun to spend more time in her room, which was locked. Once, when Casey was walking past her door, a powerful scent of decay washed out. She had choked and collapsed on the floor. When Rovanna came out to investigate the noise, she simply scowled at Casey and closed the door.
This began to worry Casey, as she cared for her sister.
Casey returned home at around 2:00 in the afternoon, right in the middle of one of her dad's rants. Rovanna was just sitting there, staring at her father with dead-looking eyes.
" Something must be troubling Rovanna.." Casey muttered.
So, when Rovanna was out and about, Casey sneaked into Rovanna's room, and froze with fear.
The walls were lined with human skulls, and some of them had red stains on the wall beneath them, indicating that they were still wet when they were mounted. It seemed as if Rovanna was trying to paint the walls red, with the blood from the numerous skulls around the room. Bloody knives lined a rack on the far right side of the room, where a ritual star had been carved into the bare wood floor. A skull, that to Casey's horror still had red leaking from the base, adorned the center.
Casey heard footsteps coming up the steps, and she realized that if Rovanna saw her leaving her room, she would be furious. So, Casey quietly closed the door, and ran to hide under Rovanna's bed.
The door opened again, and Casey recognized Rovanna's black slippers that she got for her birthday. Casey saw her drop a drenched bag onto the floor, next to the star.
Rovanna reached into the bag, and began removing human bones. She traced the star in bone, then to Casey's dismay, pulled out a human heart, which she stabbed with a knife. She also punctured her own hand. " My blood for his blood. My blood for his blood..." She began saying. Casey gasped, and Rovanna looked right at her.
Rovanna stood, and began walking over to the bed. Casey wriggled out, and screamed, " Rovanna! What are you doing!? " Rovanna just stared with her dead eyes. " I'm bringing him back. He requires a sacrifice of a once loved one." And with that, Rovanna lunged with her knife.
