• Sitting alone in the dark. Alone and forgotten in a land that doesn't seem real at all. I sat on the damp cement thinking how I even got to where I am now.
It all began when I came to visit my cousin for a week. It was during summer vacation. I had moved from Russia to America with my family so they thought it would be good to visit. My cousin lived in a house that looked like it was from the dinosaur age. It had an old musty smell to it that would scrunch up anyone's nose.
It was so boring the first day. All I did was hang out in my room listening to my ipod. I was reading my magazine until I heard my cousin's car pull out and drive off. "Huh she probably needed something from the store." I became so bored that I actually took a tour of the house. I looked at all the pictures and paintings. Nothing of interest really. But what really caught my eye was the attic stairs that where across from my room. In the movies the attic is usually when the people would be killed. How flippin sweet would that be. I smirked and headed towards the stairs that would take me to a creepy mysterious attic. Walking up the stairs I could hear the old wood creak as if pleading for mercy. I wasn't that fat...
After walking an excruciatingly painful 15 step walk I reached the attic door. Its black frame and golden design filled my eyes and mind of wonder. As I touched the door knob chills went up and down my body. “s**t I got to lay off the plant..”
I rubbed my arms and opened the door. I held my breath expecting a body swinging from the ceiling. I peered inside and saw....nothing. “Well that’s a ******** let down.”
I walked inside looking around. Just like any other attic. “Boring!” I said kicking some rags around. I looked through some trunks. Just some stupid papers and books. I was on my way out when I tripped over a small box. “Ow son of a b***h that hurt!”, I looked down at it and glared. “Oh boy you are in for it now!” I picked it up and looked at it. It was the strangest thing I had ever seen. It had a 6 pointed star shaped mirror on the top, “Huh is it Jewish or something?”
I rubbed off the dust with my sleeve to reveal writing I had never seen before. The only languages I know were English, Russian, and French. and on the box was nothing like them. I looked harder at the language and saw one French word that I could make out. “Entrée?” Meaning Enter. I scratched my head in confusion. That’s when things went wrong.
The star began to glow. I dropped the box and backed up. “What the hell?!” I stared at the glowing star. The star points began to spin. 3 one way and 3 the other way. The light got so bright I couldn’t see anything. Next thing I know everything went dark.
I opened my eyes looking up to a red orange sky with birds flying overhead. I sat up and felt cold. No wonder because I wasn’t wearing my thick long sleeved jacket but a white short dress with ribbons going around my torso. I stood up and the dress fulled out. It went a bit passed my knees. I wore white stockings and black shiny shoes. I felt and looked like I fell out of Alice in Wonderland. Even my hair was different. It is usually curly and in a ponytail but now it was strait and down. I never realized how long it could be.
I blinked a few times and looked at my new surroundings. They would put me in a straight jacket if I told anyone what I say. The trees were a disgusting purple color and the leaves were red. The bushes were red as well. I stepped closer to the trees cautiously and touched its bark. It felt warm and soft as if it were skin.
“Where the hell am I? Either I’m on something or this is real.” I said aloud as I looked you to what seemed to be the sky. I brought my head down and stared forward. I could see a large castle in front of me not to far away. “A castle? What the hell? Am I in some sort of fairytale....ok I’m on something.” I sighed and stared at it. “Well...maybe someone can help me..gotta be cautious though...or else they might be demon people for all I know..”
As I started walking I could feel something watching my every move. I looked around but nothing was there. That’s when I started freaking out. It was like in the movies when a girl is going to be killed and the killer is right there but she doesn’t see him and you want to warn her but you can’t and she gets killed.
Suddenly I could feel a hot breath on my neck and a loud snorting sound. I turn my head to be face to face with the ugliest most horrible looking creature I have ever seen. I couldn’t even compare it to anything. I screamed so loud the whole planet could hear me. I started running for my life flapping my arms every where. I could hear it run after me. Good thing I was on the track team at my school.
I reached what looked like a town. I look back sweat running down my face and saw nothing. I guess it gave up. I gave out a huge sigh of relief. I thought I was gonna become lunch. I looked around to see people. The all looked normal but still who knows what goes through their minds. I walked around for a bit before talking to people I went through a marketplace. They had normal food, chickens, pigs, apples, and other normal fruit. I passed by a junk store and glanced. Its a good thing I did too or else I wouldn’t have found that same small box with the same mirror. I went over and picked it up to get a better look at it. This one was different. The language was all symbols and the mirror was cracked. It looked older than the one in the attic. A man had approached me.
“Do you want to buy that miss?” He asked me. He looked like my grandfather. A lot like him. I shook my head and inhaled a deep breath. “S-Sir. Can I ask you a strange question?” He looked at me and smiled. “Of course my dear.” I nodded and leaned in.
“Listen, I don’t know where I am...I just appeared here. This box, well one like it I think it transported me here. Do you know...anything?” I looked at him with a serious expression. He placed his hand on his chin and nodded and spoke, “Ok, I believe you because that has happened to everyone here.” He offered me to go into the room of his shop. I followed him to a small room with tea cups and a tea pot on a little table and some stools. I sat on one he sat on the other.
He poured me tea. I was reluctant to take a sip but I did. He put down his cup and looked at me. “Young Lady, let me tell you what we all are. You see we are called Nobodies. When a baby is born there are two souls. There is the pure, good soul and then there is the bad negative soul, which are called heartless, or baby Nobodies. When the child gets to a certain age where they mature they mainly choose the pure good soul and send the heartless soul here where they become a Nobody.
“The King is the one that created this world where the Nobodies can live in peace. Sometimes we get good souls. We execute them because it would upset the harmony of our world. They have a certain mark to show that they are pure. A heart on the wrist.” He looked at me and I looked down at my wrists. All this was so confusing yet made sense.
“I..I think I understand..” I look to see a white glowing heart on my wrist. I gasped and looked up at the man. He grabbed my wrist. “I’m sorry dear....but this is the only way to keep the Nobodies safe and have them live in peace. You must die.” I tried to get free from his grasp. He hit me over the head and I blacked out. Next thing I knew I was here in a cell that was cold and damp. Scared out of my mind I screamed for help hoping someone would hear me. No one cared.
So now I sit here awaiting the inevitable. My death sentence was decided and was scheduled as if it were an event. I am so scared. “Mom, dad, sis. I want to come home. I’m sorry for everything I did wrong. I’m sorry.” The last night of my life and all I can do is cry for the last time. I feel like a rodent that’s about to be exterminated. It does not feel good at all. I look up to see guards dressed in black robes open the cage door and they grab me taking me to a large stage with a pole and straw. They place me on the pole and tie me to it. “Do you have any last words?” One of them ask me. I look at him with a tear stained face. I finally realized while I was in that cell alone. That they must feel alone and upset that they must be called nobodies. A tear goes down my face as I think of my last final words. I look at him and nod. “Yes. Nobody is never a nobody but a somebody. Its up to you to make yourselves a somebody.” With the last words that came out of my mouth they light the straw with fire and it burst into blazes. I start to burn and I look at the sky. For the first time in my life, I felt like I was finally going to be free of a world that is full of hate and despair. I am not sad to die but happy to have the chains that bound me to this world finally broken. The strangest part was, was that I wasn’t even going to be missed. If what the man said was true.

My body was still in the attic with a dark and twisted soul.
