Lizzie ran through the lifeless hallway. Her boots clunking on the floor as she ran towards the wide window. The tears were flowing freely now and she didn't really care anymore. 'who cares if he sees me crying?! serves him right to feel bad. But it doesn't make up for all that he's done!' she thought to herself as she wiped her fist on her cheek. She reluctantly wiped the tears remembering she was wearing mascara but her knuckles showed the black had already spread on her face.
"what's wrong with me?!" she yelled into the atmosphere, not really knowing if she wanted an answer.
She stopped to a hault squeeking her scuffed boots against the linoleum. Lizzie pressed her prespirated face to the cool glass of the window as her palms met it too. She shut her eyes forcing the tears to stop invading her face. Lizzie opened her eyes with her cheek still pressed to the glass and watched as her breaths were making it foggy. She lifted a finger from the glass to draw a heart on the window and smiled wryly, fighting back more tears.
"I knew I'd find you here" whispered Jake. Lizzie's eyes were wide still feeling his warm breath on her ear. 'I need to be strong' she encouraged herself. Feeling as cowardly as ever Lizzie half-turned avoiding his gaze. Even with her head down and Jake being a foot taller she could feel his ice blue eyes curiously eyeing her. "why'd you run from me?" he asked with complete innocence weaved within his words. When he didn't get an answer he waited a bit more, but as he grew impatient he lifted his hand to lift up her chin making her look at him. Her skin burned his at contact but he was surprised she didn't flinch this time.
Lizzie trembled within his grasp, it was gentle but he wasn't making it easier for her get away from his penetrating frosty eyes. She opened her eyes and more tears flowed rolling down her cheeks and trickling on Jake's fingertips. He didn't move and neither did she but it felt as though time was rushing everywhere but right here. Lizzie gained strength to look into his eyes, look into the eyes she didn't see for over ten years, into the eyes she thought to be of a dead boy. "why did you run from me?" she asked back. His face grew painstriken and his eyes even icier. "I didn't run away from you. If I could change time I would have stayed with you, but I didn't have a choice." He bit his trembling lip as he dropped his gaze to her scuffed boots. She gnawed her skirt with her glossy black fingernails, trying to keep them busy and not think about what she so longed to do; to comb his black hair with her fingers.
