• It's funny how the world works. One mistake can break even the firmest of ties. One limpet hanging onto your boyfriend can rip holes in your heart and mangle it until it doesn't feel like it's beating anymore. And then you only feel angry.

"And another thing!" I stabbed at Jack's chest with my finger. "I dont care what your ex is going through! If you have to help her, don't bloody tell me the details!"
"I only told you so you wouldn't get jealous."
"Jealous!" My voice rose in pitch. "Why would I be jealous! You know what? I give you my blessing! Go spend as much time as you want with her!"
"What do you mean?" He asked quietly, dark eyes unreadable.
"I mean that we gave it a shot and it didn't work out." I sighed, feeling my anger collapse into grey despair. "It's over."
Something in his eyes flashed, and he flinched like I had hit him. "Leah, we can talk about this. You know I love you. That used to be enough."
"Well, it's not now." I replied flatly. "I love you too. But it's not enough. Not when she's sticking to you like a limpet."
"You know I would never cheat!" Now he was the angry one.
I looked down, then up again. "I know that. I trust you. I don't trust her." I could feel the tears welling up. "I have to go. I'm sorry, Jack..." I turned and fled, leaving him standing there. I could picture him, his face frozen in a mask of shock, disbelief and anger, as he tried to make sense of what I had just done. Man I could be a cow.

    "Leah!" Someone called out. "Leah!"
I shook my head and walked faster. I didn't trust myself to speak without my voice cracking.
"Leah! What happened? Jack looks like a truck hit him!" Leo grabbed my arm and forced me to stop. "Leah? You alright?"
"Leave me alone, Leo." I mumbled, averting my probably red eyes.
    "What happened?" He demanded.
"I said leave me alone!" I snapped, finally looking at him. "You should be happy anyway! You got what you wanted! I broke up with him!"
    "Why?"
"Why are you even asking! You've been waiting for this ever since we first went out!" I scrubbed my eyes angrily, my voice breaking up. "If you want to know why, ask the limpet."
"The... d'you mean Jen?" Now he sounded confused. "Leah, what did she do?"
"I walked in on her and Jack, cosy as. She had her arms around him, Leo! Her face was this close!" I measured out a weeny distance with my thumb and forefinger.
Leo pulled me into a hug, and for once in the last year that I had been dating Jack I didn't protest. Maybe because, as of ten minutes ago, I wasn't dating Jack anymore.
