• Chapter Three: the south side of Becket Island and the strange boy

Sahara stood up and began to wander down the beach, she had become bored while sitting in the cool sand and had decided to go for a walk down the beach, she had hoped to get close enough to the border that separated the two sides of the island, so that she could just see the lights of the south side of Becket, the lights were unusually bright and the little town shone like a jewel in the moon light, it was a very pretty site. As she neared the border that separated the southern and western sides of the island, she could see the lights of south Becket and the tops of some of the houses there, to her the south side of Becket looked like an island paradise…the houses were nicely kept and it look as though very wealthy people lived there, it was much better looking then the old run down western half of the island…Sahara moved closer and peered over the big brick wall that separated the island in two, “its so beautiful” she thought “I want to see more!” she then began to climb the wall, she sat herself on top of it and looked out over the tiny city like town “maybe if I sneak over there uncle won’t know.” She thought to herself as she pushed her self over the ten foot wall, “I just want to find hiro and then I’ll leave.” She landed quietly on the other side of the vine covered brick wall and took a quick look around, “these houses look bigger in person!” she thought as she squeezed herself into a small alleyway. Sahara made her way to the town streets which were rather empty, “I wander if they have a curfew here?” she wandered as she walked the empty street, she made her way to the center of the little town, it was bustling with people and little horse drawn carriages whizzed past her like cars on a busy highway, Sahara looked around amazed at what she saw, “look at all the people no wander the streets further back were so empty! It looks like a little city!!!” she said excitedly “but how am I to find hiro when there are so many people?” Sahara made her way through the bustling crowds and squeezed between to parked carriages, as she merged from the other side of the two carriages, one of the two large Clydesdale horses decided he wanted to play so he playfully nudged her, causing Sahara to stumble forward onto the sidewalk, “hey!” she shouted as she looked up at the horse “what was that for?” the horse just looked at her with his soulful brown eyes, “oh” she said “you must be bored just sitting out here while your driver enjoys him self inside that restaurant” she gave the horse a quick pet and went on her way. As she walked down the sidewalk, she looked into the windows of almost every store she past, “such wonderful things here!” she thought “if only I had some money I could buy my self something from the bakery”, as Sahara admired the little town she was caught off guard by the grip of a cold ruff hand, “come with me!!” it said in a scratchy voice as it pulled her off the sidewalk in to a near by alleyway, “l-let me go!!!!” she shouted as she fought to get away, as it pulled her into the alleyway it through her down “give me any money you have and I won’t have to hurt you!!!” the voice said roughly, she looked up frighten “ shouldn’t you be on the other side of Beckett island?” she asked it but he didn’t answer instead he said “ give me your money now or I will hurt you” the strange man said as he brought out a small steel plated gun, “but I don’t have any money” Sahara cried, just as she finished her sentence a voice broke through the darkness of the alleyway “leave her alone!!!” it said as clear as day “or I’ll beat your a** to the ground!!!” it was male that much Sahara knew “but who could this stranger be?” she thought, the man with the gun whirled around franticly “where are you!!!” shouted the man “come out here so I can kill you and get back to what I was doing!!!” but the mysterious voice did not answer, just then a shadow came from the darkness, it ran past Sahara and with a swift kick brought the man with the gun to his knees, “I thought I told you to leave her alone!!!” the shadow barked “now either you go back to the western half of Beckett island or I’ll bring you there my self!!!” the man looked up and without a word he ran out of the alleyway and disappeared around the corner, the shadow made its way toward the frightened Sahara “are you alright?” the shadow asked kindly as he helped her up, “yes I’m fine” she answered as she stood up “ how about you?” she asked the brown messy haired boy that had been helping her, “me?” he said “I’m fine, I was more worried about you” as they walked out into the light of the street lamps Sahara looked up at her savior, “you look like a friend of mine I knew along time ago” she said to him “is that why you where wandering the streets?” he asked her “yes” she answered “I was looking for him” the young boy looked away for a moment as if trying to think of what to say next, “what was his name?” he asked kindly “hiro” Sahara answered “his name was hiro” the young boy looked astonished “that’s my name” he said excitedly, Sahara stopped dead in her tracks “hiro!?” she exclaimed “is that really you?” he looked down at her and smiled “yes Sahara its me, its been along time”, “I can’t believe its you!!!” she said she gave hiro a tight long hug, “and yet I look at you and realize you have not changed a bit” hiro still had his messy brown hair, and his caring green eyes, “and yet” Sahara thought to herself, “you have gotten older” hiro was always a year older the Sahara, hiro was now 18, and lived some what on his own, he often traveled between his parents home and his own home, Sahara looked at hiro and smiled “its good to see you again” she said he looked down at her and smiled too “its good to see you too” he said.
