Goodnight Moon (chapter 3)
-
I opened my eyes.
I was in a three by there metre room with a single bed. i got up and my knee buckled under the weight. I knelt there on the floor. Instinctively i reached out with my hand. My sword spun into it. Only second later I realised what happened, like I had come out of a trance. I dropped my sword. Only later did I find out what I did.
I struggled out of the room, thinking what I had done. a metallic voice cut the silence like a knife.
"Approaching SRN 305, please may all passengers go to the lobby and can passenger Moon report to the control bay, thank you" it stopped with a click.
Only then did i realise how big the ship was. Think of two planks of wood stuck together at the back to the middle with about 3cm between them. Now imagine there are wings on the side and add another plank of wood jutting out of the top (this being the control centre) and you have a basic idea of the airship. This was a battleship in its full glory, guns included. Thinking of planks of wood i wandered where Regal was.
It didn’t take long to get lost. I suddenly realised that there where only fifteen or sixteen crew, not including Balthier. I asked for direction from one of them but he ran off. i turned and found myself face to face with someone.
"Are you looking for the control bay?" He asked, searching me up to down
“Umm, yes.” Was all I could manage. for starters I wasn’t sure if hewas even a he, he had pointed ears and pure white hair. the most disturbing part was that he had blue skin, not sooooooo cold his skin turned blue, dark blue.
"Are you perhaps Moon?"
"ummmm" I said staring at his ears "your an elf"
"Congratulations," he said sarcastically "the control room is up that ladder then at the end of the hall"
"ummm" I said, almost drooling.
"Go!" he snapped and I raced up the ladder
The door to the control room slid open. There was a main window at the front which overlooked the whole ship. Balthier sat at the controls
"Welcome to space Moon, your namesake should feel right at home" he smirked at his joke
"What?" I asked. He swivelled on his chair.
"Tell me, Moon, what you know about moons?" he asked
"They are big rocks kept in orbit by gravity or something”
"How do they stay in orbit?"
"Another gravitational force, right?"
"Wrong," he said. I wanted to argue but he spoke to quickly "they stay in orbit because they don’t want to be destroyed"
"Sooo..." I said trying to un-muddle his words "there alive?"
"Correct"
"That’s impossible"
"Is it? Your saying intimate objects cannot come to life"
"Yes"
"Take machines for example, they have a heart, a battery, and the pump blood, electricity" I opened my mouth to argue i realized i had nothing to argue about. He had won.
He smirked “I never lose”
“You remind me of someone” I said suddenly
“If it’s a final fantasy name joke ill throw you off the ship” I paused, making sure his name wasn’t in final fantasy
“You remind me of wolf” I said quietly, almost crying. Balthier looked away.
“I’m sorry Moon but your Moontaken, your going to have losses like this a lot now”
“Moontaken?” I asked, drying my eyes. Balthier looked up again
“Its slang for being controlled by the parasite” he said, flicking switches. “Lets take a look at your friends, eh?” the monitor to the left flickered to life and my team sat in the cargo bay sipping a drink. Well, Faux was, everyone else was trying to get out by scratching the walls.
“What’s wrong with them?” I gasped as Regal head butted the wall and fell to the floor.”
“It’s SRN 305, a.k.a ‘planet of the sirens’ they attacked earth long ago, around Greek times” he said simply
“Cant you just restrain my team please, Regal’s already unconscious!”
He looked at me “my cargo hold is fine, unless you want them in the engine rooms, but there’s a 60% charge of nuclear deceleration” I looked at him
“Huh?”
“Their insides will crumble”
“Oh, I like the cargo hold” I decided to change the subject “tell me about the sirens” he looked away and sat back at the controls.
“They are slaves basically; their masters are not big fans of earth and set them into the waters of the ocean to kill sailors with there beautiful voices, to get the scent, then move onto land and wipe us out” he explained, trying to get the ship away from the planet.
“So the sirens are singing to my team to try and kill them, I take it the parasite protects us.”
“Yes, no and yes,” He replied “the sirens are singing to our ship to kill us because their Masters say so”
“And who are their masters?” as soon as i asked that there was a loud sound from outside and the ship shook. Balthier looked at me.
