- I was all ready to go. I had spent the last hour and half preparing myself for this. I leaned against the banister as I waited for the doorbell to ring. As I dwelled there in the doorway, I wondered why I was going to do this. I knew it was because I loved him. But that just didn't seem to completely answer the question. Why would I throw my life away, at the age of 17, just for some guy? It didn't seem logical to me, and when the doorbell rang, I froze. Very slowly, I backed away from the door, my long black dress shifting around me. When he impatiently rang the bell again, I turned, and ran. I ran for my life. I ran for myself. I ran to get away.
