• Same Old, Same Old

It had been a while since he had broken from the chain of his usual day. Eat, go to work, sleep; that was generally how his day usually went. Nothing interesting ever happened in the World of the Dead, after all. Everyone ignored everyone else.

He may have been the leader, but that didn’t mean that he was always busy. He had paperwork on his desk, but he didn’t feel like doing any of it today.

Leaning back on his chair and tilting it, the man sighed. It was so boring here…

    “Master?”

At the sound of his servant’s voice, he sat forward, brining the legs of the chair on the ground. “Kino, you know always to knock!” his eyes flashed with displeasure at someone witnessing the little display of immaturity of his actions. Feeling his face flush slightly, he shook his head.

“My deepest apologies, Master Akurai,” the servant kneeled and bowed his head until it touched the floor.

“Don’t let it happen again,” Akurai snapped and whipped around to face his paperwork. Holding the pen in his hand, he dropped his head. He sighed and watched the servant approach him.

“Master, are you feeling alright?” Kino asked slowly, not sure if the question would provoke a violent reaction from the King of the Dead.

“Fine… Kino,” he replied, “Get me a drink of water.”

Kino bowed and scurried off to get his master a drink of water. As the Death King watched him go a thought struck him.

What was it like in the human world?

Akurai had to admit, he was curious. The human world after four thousand years must be more impressive than the giant pyramids built by the Egyptians for their fourth dynasty King Khufu. It must have more impressive ways of getting around than the horses that he had seen people tame and ride.

He stood up, all paperwork forgotten.

“I am going to the human world!” he announced to the startled guards standing outside his door.
