young b-17 pilot Ean plenty, sat in a little resturant in paris, and enjoyed a coke and some pasta. Daily rations were gruel compared to this. He thought to himself. A short man, with a long pointy mushstache sat next to him.
"listen American, i do not respect what you do. bombing cities as you do."
"have you seen what the nazis have done to people. What i do is pay back."
"you're work is careless. did you know that you also kill citizens, poor women children and old men? you cannot tell me that this doesnt haunt you each and every time you hop into you're death machine!" the mans face was red and angry. Ean snatched his coke and stormed out of the resturant. he chugged the coke and busted it in the street in anger, ignoring whatever the frenchmen said. Ean hated it, but the man was right. To get his mind off of the thought, he thought about his wife and daughter. They were living in a city just near the outside of france. He thought about his daughter's ocean blue eyes, and her curly gold hair. Then he thought about his wife, with her flowing blonde hair, and also ocean blue eyes. At last he thought about his new baby, a boy, he remembered how his wife had told him in a letter, that he would look just like him-
"Soilder! report to base this minute!" said a stray general. he looked drunk, but it was an order so he went. He marched to his b-17 and waited for further instructions. The drunken general was replaced with another shorter replacment. He also was'nt as inspirational as his original. He explained the mission, which was an easy routine bombing. when the all flew off into the blue, Ean tried to inspire the men over the air radio, and he did great.
"listen men, we are about to crush these nazi's cus the red white and blue can't do anyting less." A few cheers for the u.s and the battalion was set. Ean revisited his memory and thought about his new son. He has never seen him, but his wife had such a vivid way of describing things. He-
"Ean! is that the enemy?" asked a pilot over the air radio. And surely it was.
"alright, this wasnt planned but-"
Screams echoed through the radio.
"oh no!" Ean realized that he would have to wing it. He dodged the ships with ease and sped off. soon after though, they were on his tail. he dropped his two bombs, and heard the remaining bombers do the same through the radio. even he did'nt know how he survived the mission, but he managed to escape the enemy and land in the safe zone, right outside the city. He sat there for a bit and realized what he had caused. people, burning alive, ran out of the city and fell down lifeless. a few screaming people wiped the smile from his face. Then a frown began to fill it's place. No soilder was among the screaming bodies. when a unrecognizable little girl ran out, Ean ran up to her and tried to save her, but was to late. A tear dropped from his eye as he dropped her on the ground. something pink fell out of her burnt and charred pocket. he picked it up and it read: Jane plenty's dairy. He turned through the pages slowly, horrified. The dairy was half burned, and could only read from april 1 1942 to apr 30 1942.
Apr 1: Today some men in helments took us here to this little place. Mommy said that they were bad men, but i don't think so, becuase they always give me candy.
Apr 29: The men left today, and mommy told me to write.
Apr 30: mommy keeps yelling Ean. I tried to calm her down, but she won't listen. I am going to go outside soon, but-
Outside there are loud sounds. I just looked outside and it looked like the sky was wearing black. I am so scared, i wish daddy was her-. The rest of the diary was impossible to read. Ean did not sleep at all that night, his feet dangled next to the bed.
