• Chapter One

tab Living a double life isn't as hard as you'd think it'd be. Especially for a Deletor. Especially if you're me.

tab Who am I? That's a question I never hear. It's more of, what am I?
Simple. I'm Schuyler Nvdo and I'm a Deletor. One of the best highly trained, killing machines. And I'm only eighteen.

tab There's not only my kind in this world. There are also Saviors, Terks, and Venators. The Terks are the ones who make the list of Venators which are the ones we, the Deletors, go after. Saviors are often assigned to Venators to keep them alive until the deadline is voided. We also have the boss who assign the Deletors their Directives, but they don't have nicknames like us. If a directive is followed out then a Deletor must go to the Terk to recieve compensation. A boss may give out the directive to more than one Deletor and if a Deletor wishes to go after the other, they may do so. But they will not get payed as much as if the hit the Venator. It's a risky buisness.

tab There is a way we tell each other apart. The Terks wear green tear shaped totems. Saviors wore white wings. And the Deletors wore black arrows. My totem was different. I wore a white arrow on a black string. With that, there are only two rules. One: Always wear your totem. Two: NEVER get involved with a Directive. Never. Of course, there are some idiots who do break rule two. They end up loving their Directive which could get both of you killed. We call them Ryters.

tab My father, Marcus Nvdo was a Deletor just as myself. His boss, Brandon Mraz, was in Execute which is like a jail. Little did we know, my father was on a list that not even my mother, who was a Savior, could save him from. He was on the Terks "big list." His deadline was a year long and he lived through most of it, until Brandon was released. One Deletor knew that my father and Brandon were best friends, and came to our home seeking Brandon. On contact with my father, he killed him. While me and my mother watched. I was two.

tab Brandon found us that day. That day changed my whole life. Brandon moved us out of the house and with him. My mother and him were married when I turned four. When I turned eight, I started training to become a Savior. The youngest in most programs were fifteen but I was... special. I was ready. By the age of twelve I was a one of the best Saviors. Until one day I was assigned to a man who seemed familiar to me. He was the man who killed my father. I wanted to kill him.

tab I turned my back on my Directive. On the Venator who didn't deserve to live, and I became one of the worlds most feared Deletors. From a Deletor father and a Savior mother, the role fit me perfectly.

    ----------------------------------------------

tab As I was walking up to my fathers office for a meeting, a lot of people in the lobby were muttering.

    tab "Another Directive? Already?"

tab "How does she sleep at night?"

tab I wanted to tell them that I slept like a baby, but now wasn't the time. I was running late for a very important meeting with Brandon, who was now my father and my boss. He called an important meeting with some of the Deletors. The ones he trusted most. I knocked on his office door and all the Deletors that were in there came out and left.

tab "I am so sorry, Mr. Mraz." I told my father. I talked to him with respect at work, "I did not realize how late I was, sir."

tab "It's fine, my daughter. I simply told themto leave so I may discuss something with you." He smiled."Please sit."

tab I sat down and smiled. I really did love my father even if he wasn't my real one. He took care of me and my mother when we needed him. "Is there a problem, father?"

tab "Problem?" He asked, "Oh, no. Not at all. I have a Directive to give you."

tab I smiled. I knew he was going to choose me. He always chose me for the important Directives because he knew I could do better than any one. What I didn't know was, this Directive was going to be the hardest of them all.
