• Dreams

tab The sound of metal on metal. People screaming. The heat and the agonizing smell. Finally a sharp crack to the head and Isabel woke up. She’d never had a dream like that before. It felt as if she were coming out of another world.
tab She looked at the time; still 4:58 in the morning. She sighed and fell back to sleep.
tab The next day she felt groggy at work. Almost as if she’d been in an intense workout. Her vision was blurring and her reactions were slightly delayed but she shook it off and it went back to normal. Her friends didn’t notice anything though.
tab The next time she fell asleep it happened again. This time though, she could remember some of it. She was in some sort of surreal forest with a lake. The water looked as if it were almost a deep violet and the trees were a brilliant shade of green.
tab She felt the cold wind bite her face. She was being carried by someone or something. She was about to look up and see what it was when a screeching noise arose and the world around her began to dissolve.
tab Isabel sat up in bed. Her alarm clock kept screeching. She finally turned it off and got ready for work. She couldn’t help but feel a tad disappointed by not knowing what was in her dream but she soon forgot about it.
tab It was her day off from work and she visited the park that day. She was eating an ice cream cone when she suddenly blacked out and collapsed. The next time she woke up she was in a hospital and in a bed.
tab “Finally woken up now? That was a pretty nasty concussion you had there”, said a doctor as he was working his way around the other patients in bed.
tab Isabel remained silent. She looked around her and then felt something strange. She couldn’t put her finger to it. Everything was dizzy. The doctor started to run towards her and started shouting but she couldn’t hear what he was saying. Everything looked as if it was melting. Finally she couldn’t see anything and all she saw was the dark.
tab “Welcome back princess”, a voice said. “We never thought you’d recover from that nasty blow to the head you got from your battle. It was troublesome carrying you home”
tab Isabel opened her eyes. She was in a castle and a centaur was talking to her. She suddenly understood everything.
tab “I see”, she replied and she stood up and took her rightful place at the throne of the kingdom.

tab Back at the hospital doctors and nurses stared pitifully at Isabel.
tab “The concussion was the minor part”, said a doctor. “The main part was that it led to her coma. We will never know when she will come back”
tab The doctors and nurses then walked away in a dismal silence.
