She heard footsteps.
"Mom, I'm scared", she cried "where's daddy?".
"Shh, it's okay", her mother crooned "he's alright" saying it more to herself than her daughter.
They both sat there in the closet trying to barely make a sound. With a little window the small pup, Yuki could see the full moon. She always loved the full moon, but not tonight. it marked the beginning of a war tonight.
The door creaked open. About to scream, her mother put her hand over Yuki's mouth.
"Princess, come please", the voice said despairingly "you have to leave the castle".
Yuki relaxed, it was her guard and her best friend, Hope.
"Why?" the princess asked.
"I'm so sorry, but your father was murdered moments ago by the vampires".
"No!". The voice not coming from Yuki but her mother. "No, no, no, it can't be".
"I'm so sorry ma'am but i saw him, and it will forever haunt me. I was prepared to fight by his side, but he refused saying it was my duty to protect Yuki. Please forgive me your highness", she whispered. "We have to go this moment your highness."
Both the Queen and Yuki were in denial.
How was it possible? Her father, her peace loving father, dead?
The Queen snapped out of it first.
"Hope, take Yuki and hide in the forest, take as many people with you"
"What about you mother?" Yuki fearfully asked
"I will distract the vampires and buy you time" the Queen said.
"No" Yuki said, rebelling.
"Don't worry, i will see you again, i promise".
"I'm sorry ma'am" Hope said while lifting Yuki up.
The princess squirmed but couldn't make Hope loosen her grip. Hope put the princess down as soon as they were out of the castle.
"I'm sorry Yuki but we have to go, your mother will catch up with us" Hope assured her.
"Alright" Yuki said still scared but this time for her mother's life.
With that both transformed into their wolf form. Both were the color of midnight black, blending into the night. They gathered every person they could find, and ran to the nearby woods.
They waited till dawn but the Queen did not come. The sun brightened up the black sky along with the fire burning the land. Yuki shed tears as did everyone who survived. Her beloved kingdom, her people, now gone or suffering. She cried for every person killed, every person suffering and her beloved family.
You didn't keep your promise
On that day she swore she would get her revenge. She would avenge her people and her family. She swore to kill any vampire ever with any means possible. For that, she would wait a thousand lifetimes for.
