• Chapter 1, part 2

I pushed open the big, metal gates that lead into the cemetery. I looked around to see if anyone was there. To tell you the truth, I was scared of this cemetery. I was fine with any other in the world. It was just that this one gave off bad vibes. Like something bad was going to happen every time you went in there. You could call me paranoid, but I could feel this places evil ore (one of my other powers is that I could sense ores and tell if they were good or bad.) this bad ore was all over this place. The only time I would ever come here was to visit my parent’s grave. And that’s the only reason.

I walked into the grave yard. As I looked around, I could see the black ore that filled this place. It looked like the same ore that surrounded my school. I passed millions of graves marked with every name you could imagine. Before I had the ability to see ores, I loved reading the names on the headstones. I would make up stories about them and tell them to everyone in my school. They always said that the stories that I told were really good, but I knew they were just being nice.

But when I got my powers, I became more and more frightened of this grave yard. And began coming here less and less. Now I only came here to have some alone time with my parents. When I come here by myself, it’s like there not really dead. It’s like they are on a trip and the only way to talk to them is through a phone that was in their headstone. I liked that I could come here on my own, that way I could talk to them by myself; with no interruptions. There was also another reason that I only liked my parents’ grave, out of all the other graves, theirs was the only one that didn’t have that bad ore around it. I felt safe there. Like nothing could touch me. Like nothing could see me.

After a few minutes, I had finally made it to the grave of my mother and father. They were in the same coffin, but they had two different headstones. I looked at the grave lovingly. I slid my hand across the marble stone. It was cold, but at the same time it felt like I was touching the faces of my parents. “Hi Mom. Hi Dad. How are you doing?” I said in a gentle child voice. “I’m doing fine so you don’t have to worry about me. I heal fast so I’ll be fine.” I sat down on a bench that was right in front of the grave. As I looked at the grave, I could almost feel my parents with me. It was like they were sitting with me. They gave me a sense of protection.

I felt a hand on my shoulder. Startled, I turned my head to the side of me. There next to me I saw a faint face of, my mother. My eyes grew wide with shock at seeing her face. As I looked into her eyes, I felt truly happy. Like all of the things that happened, was just a bad dream. I nudged my way closer to her and laid my head down on her chest. I was surprised that I didn’t have to hold myself up. My mother lifted her hand and began to weave her fingers in my hair. As she did, I felt like a little a girl again. Held in her mother’s arms.

Then, suddenly I felt another hand on my lap. I turned my head to the other side to see the face of my Dad. I was dumbstruck by seeing both my parents. I dint know what to do, then my father held his arms open as though to ask for a hug. At that I flung myself into his arms. I was so happy at the sight of them. I had missed them so much. I didn’t think that I could live much longer with out seeing them. I looked up at my father’s face to be greeted by his giant smile.

I turned my head to the ground to the fact that I was almost crying. There, I saw something that I couldn’t believe. On the ground in front of me was the ghost of my two brothers. Sitting cross legged on the floor. "Hey Rose, good to see you again,” said my oldest brother Timmy.

“We’ve missed you so much,” continued my little brother John. I was baffled at seeing everyone, at hearing there voice, I didn’t know what else to say.

“You can talk? I thought that ghosts couldn’t talk to anyone.” At this, everyone began to laugh hysterically. Even my mom and dad were laughing. Even though they were laughing at me, it was nice to hear their voices. I looked up at my Mom to see if she was still laughing hard. Usually, she would be the one to stop first. And this time was no different then any other.

“Oh Rose,” said my mother wiping laugh tears from her eyes, “we’re not ghosts. We are angels sent from His Holiness.” With her white, spirit hands, she turned me to face her. In her eyes, instead of joy, I saw worry and fear. I recognized this tip of fear. It was the same kind of fear that I saw in her eyes the day I dumped that chemical on myself. I couldn’t understand why she would look like that.

“Mom, what's wrong? Is everything okay?” I looked at her with non understanding eyes. She turned her head sadly. I looked at my brothers, still on the floor. They had their heads to the ground. Then I looked at my father. “Dad, can you tell me what's going on? If it’s that bad, I should know.”

I waited for a moment to see if he would answer me. At first, I though that he wasn’t going to say anything. Then he took a long breath, and looked at me with the same worry that was in Moms eyes. “We’ve come to tell you something.”

“What is it Dad? What did you want to tell me?”

He looked down at the ground, then back at me. “There’s something coming. Something dangerous, and its coming for you. You have to look out for it or you’re life and the life of the one you love will be at risk,” my father looked at me with fright in his white eyes.

“What's coming? Who could be in danger? What can I do?”

“The ultimate evil will kill your true love; the one that is new, but close to your heart.”

“You must protect the one you love, or the whole world could fall.” As everyone said this, their eyes lit up like stars. And their voices were like angels singing. They were glowing white like the brightest star in the night sky. Then everyone looked at me and smiled. They were so beautiful, so full of joy that I started to cry out of happiness.

“We have to go now. Be strong, for us Rose. We believe that you can fight the evil that is coming. So don’t give up.” At this, everyone began to rise up to the sky. A bright light came down and surrounded them as they began to leave.

I wasn’t ready for them to leave me. I had just got them back and now they were leaving me again. “No. No you can’t leave. No, I just got you back. No, please, no! Mom, Dad, Timmy, John! Don’t leave me again! Not again! Please, don’t go!” I could see that everyone’s face was filed with tears. My mother’s face was drenched. As they rose, I could feel tears falling down my face. They can’t leave me. I didn’t think that I could take them leaving again. “No! This isn’t fair! You can’t go! It’s not fair, it’s just not fair! Why can’t you stay this time? Why?!?!?” I screamed at the heavens at the top of my lungs. It wasn’t fair that they had to leave me again.

I fell to my knees give way as the heavenly light faded and my family was again gone. They had left me for a second time. I felt an emptiness that I had felt on the day of the fire. It was like everything in me that was happy was gone. I was an empty shell; with nothing inside but darkness. I cupped my hands around my face and baled like there was nothing in the world but me. I had tried so hard not to cry at all since that day, but now was the perfect time for me to cry. And I didn’t care about anything anymore. The only thing I cared about was getting my family back.

I fell to my side and began to cry out to the world as though to bring them back. I lay on the dirt ground, my eyes closed. I continued to cry for what seemed like hours, until I heard a voice coming from behind me. It was a man’s voice, as soft as a silk blanket. “You were right. She’s over there. Hurry! I think she’s unconscious.” I could hear that they were running toward me. I tried to stop crying so that who ever it was would see that my face was engulfed in tears, but the tears just kept coming.

Someone turned me over on my back. They had a flash light that was shining in my eyes. I moved my hand in front of my face to block the light. The person moved their face closer to mine. And soon, I could tell who it was. It was Dameon. His eyes looked relieved at the sight of my face. He pulled me up off the ground and flung his arms around me. I was so surprised at his motion, that I didn’t know what to say. I could tell that he was about to cry. I gently put my arms around him in comfort. He tightened his grip on me as I did.

As he held me, I felt so warm, so safe. It was like being with him made everything alright again. I wanted to stay in his arms for the rest of my life. Then I heard him say, in a worried but happy voice, “I thought I lost you. I thought I’d lost you again. Don’t ever do that to me again! Do you understand? Never do that again.” He squeezed me so hard that I could barely breathe. But at that moment, I was so shocked that he cared about me so much, that he would start to cry. It was a little embarrassing for me, but that was okay. Then I processed one thing that he said. It was “I thought I’d lost you again”. What could that mean?

I gently bushed him away just enough so that I could see his face. I looked him straight in the eye. “What do you mean, again? I’ve only known you for a few days,” I looked at him questioningly. He droped his head slightly.

“So you still don’t remember? I thought you would remember by now. Don’t you recognize me from before?” he looked at me pleadingly. I heard a thunder crack in the sky, and then it began to pour down rain. As it fell, the icy water bit at my exposed arms and shoulders. I looked at Dameon to see what he was going to do next. He grabbed me and pulled me to my feet. He looked really serious now. I didn’t know what had gotten into him. He looked around at the surrounding graves and then back to me. “We have to go. It’s not safe here.” He grabbed my hand and began to drag me out of the grave yard.

I looked around hastily. I could see a thick black ore every were I looked. And it was getting bigger by the second. “What is that?” I yelled to Dameon as we ran faster.

“It’s Lothare. He found you. We have to find some place were he can’t enter.” He paused for a moment. Then his eyes opened wide with an idea. “Rose, are there any food stores around here?”

“How is that going to help us?” I yelled at Dameon with my question. “What are we going to do? Throw frozen turkey at it?”

“Yeah, something like that,” he looked back at me with humorous eyes. “Where’s one that’s close to here?”

“Um, the closest one is up the street to the right. I still don't know what good that will do.”

“You'll see when we get there. Just keep running!” as he said this, we both slammed our arms against the gate that blocked the exit out of the grave yard. He posed for a moment to see which way the store was. When he saw that it was to the right he jolted toward it. He was running so fast that I had some trouble keeping up with him. My legs were heavy as though they had wheights in them. Dameon was basically dragging me up the street. I looked behind me to see if the black ore was still following us. Now it was gaining on us fast. I tried to run faster but I was too tired. I wanted to fall down and rest for just a second but I knew that if I did, something bad would happen.

Finally, after what seemed like hours of running, we made it to the food store at the end of the road. Right when we got in the store, Dameon pulled me straight to the frozen food section. He maneuvered me behind him by pulling my hand toward his back. As the black ore began to move to the back of the store something made it stop about three feet away from us. I slammed my eyes shut, hoping that it wouldn’t kill us. I waited for it to attack us, but nothing happened. I opened my eyes slowly to see what was going on. When I looked at the ore, it looked almost like it was having a seizure or something. Then a monstorous cry came from it and it rushed out the door.

I looked at Dameon in amazement. I didn’t think that it would really do anything. I walked around to be in front of him. “What was that? How did you do that?” he looked at me amusingly. As if he didn’t do anything but stand there.

“I really didn’t do anything. The store did it for me.”

I looked at Dameon confused. “What do you mean, the store did it for you? What did it do?” At first he didn’t answer. So I started to use my mind reading powers. It felt like forever since I had used them. I looked at Dameon, and he looked at me back. He smiled and then it was almost like he let me inside of his mind. I couldn’t understand why, but at that moment I had better things to think about.

As I entered his mind, I was surrounded by doors on all side. I glanced at each of the doors. Usually when I enter some one's mind, I go straight to what they were thinking the moment I entered them. I had never seen these doors in anyone’s mine before. Suddenly, as I was still pondering the doors, a loud voice rang out everywhere. "Are you going to pick a door anytime soon? 'Cause if you aren’t, then your gunna have to leave my brain. So hurry up and pick already.” I swung my head, looking for the voice. I wasn’t sure, but I thought it was Daemon’s voice. As I franticly looked for the voice, the only things I saw were the doors and the wall like things around them.

“Were am I?!!!? What's with these doors?!!!?” I yelled. I thought that I needed to do that so that he could hear me.

“Wow, I didn’t know that you could yell that. Don’t worry; I can hear you loud and clear.” He paused for a moment then he began again. “You don’t know about The Mind Doors? And you call yourself a mind reader. Well, I gess it wouldn’t be that strange for someone who didn’t study well in school.”

At this, I forgot were I was and began to think that I was just talking. “Hey, not all of us went to the after school mind reading class. Or have you forgotten, I’M NOT A TARIWHOSEN or what ever you call yourself,”

“I’m a Teridon. Say it with me. Ter-i-don. Now, did you get that or do I have to go slower?” Dameon said in a slow teasing voice.

“Oh, ha ha. Very funny, Dameon. So now that we’ve had a funny moment, can you just please tell me what these doors are. Or do you need some alone time to hummer yourself in you mind?”

“Okay, okay. No need to get sarcastic about it. Now let’s see, oh yeah. These doors are called mind doors. They appear when a mind reader enters the mine of a person. But the only time the doors appear is when person your reading is aware and lets the reader in their mind. But if the reader is strong enough, then they can see the Mind Doors any time they want. The level that a reader has to be at to see the doors is very high and many people lose control if they get to that kind of power. Only one person has ever lived through that tip of power unchanged. And that’s ………” he paused for a moment. I didn’t know what he was stopping for but I didn’t want to say anything that would make it worse.

“What's the matter? Is something wrong?” I looked up to see if I could see his face but all there was was black mist. For a moment there was no answer and I didn’t want to go into the doors because I didn’t know where, or what they were. Then I heard his voice muffle up in a faint whisper.

“No. it just that, well, I have to tell you later. The point is that the doors are harmless and that you can go in without dying or anything. so go ahead and pick a door already!!” I was surprised by his reaction that I thought I should leave his mind at that moment, but something stopped me. Something told me that I needed to go into one of these doors. So I kept quiet and looked at each of the doors carefully. I was trying to pick one that would lead me to some place were I could get some info on things.

As I examined the doors, I finally decided on one that was to the left of me. I approached the door with caution. Chousing my steps carefully, as if one miss step would cause the floor to give and I would plummet to my death. As I reached for the gold doorknob, I could hear my pulse in my ears. I began to move slower and slower. Working out every move that I made in my head. I was just about 3cm away from the gold metal knob.

“OH COME ON ALREADY!!!!!! It’s not like your going to die or anything. so just OPEN THE DOOR!!!!!!” I jumped at the sudden loudness of his voice. I glared behind myself as though he was standing right there. Then, with my nose in the air and terror in my heart I opened the door. And I didn’t know if that door leads to the land of Dameon’s memories, or the land of death. But with my mind made up (half way anyway), I walked into the passageway that was coved in black mist.
