The StoryTeller Chronicles- 1
-
The rain poured harder, it seemed determined not to let up. Down Huckbury Avenue a girl walked one hand on the strap to her backpack, the other in her pocket. The trees shook as the rain pummeled each already changed leaf. Normally, Huckbury Avenue was beautiful this time of year, but the rain made the majestic colors from the leaves seem dull, and the one girl walking along in a coat fighting off the rain, made the scene all the more depressive.
With a sigh the girl stopped walking, right on the corner. She waited for a few minutes, before a dirty yellow school bus pulled up. She climbed up and sat in the back, not wanting to attract attention. But the girl was known for her stories, and on a morning like this, the other children would not stop bothering her. Smiling a little at her peers tiring need she started this morning’s bus ride tale,
“In this world, events happen, hundreds of them, every single day. Some are significant enough to get written down. Others are not even worth the effort. Take today for example, no body is going to write down, in a book for all to see, that on this day, at this moment, it was raining. But, sometimes, things that are extremely significant are not written down. This is why I’m telling you the tale. It needs to heard, kept secret no longer, about a boy and a girl, and how they fell in love...”
“Mary was not your average 15 year old girl. Sure she had crushes in math class, homework overloads, and parental arguments, but what made her a little different? No body knew she existed. Those crushes never looked her way, her homework was done so the teacher never singled her out, and her parents didn’t care about her friends.
“Jake was your average teenage boy, however. He also had those overloads, which he sometimes didn’t do, and those parental arguments, which his parents thoughts was from friends, and those math class crushes, one of which, should have happened to be Mary.
“Neither knew it yet, but they were destined to be together. Fate had tried it’s hand, put them both in similar classes, they didn’t live far away from each other, Fate had even gone as far as to make Mary’s younger sister, become friends with Jake’s. But they still didn’t even know that each other existed, let alone the trials they would soon face.
“Destiny decided that it would try, and get the two to know each other, before it was absolutely necessary that they have a bond.
“It was that last day of school; everyone was hyped up about leaving for 2 1/2 months. On her way home, she was even on the bus; Mary realized she’d forgotten her binder in her locker. She got off on the next stop and quickly hurried back to school, it wasn’t that far from the second stop, which she had reluctantly gotten off at.
“Jake too, was on his way home from school, in his mother’s car, when he realized, he’d never returned his science textbook. He asked his mother to turn around. She quickly did and asked why. When he told her, she rolled her eyes, and told him to hurry.
“Mary quickly hurried to her locker, while Jake hurried to his science classroom. Neither was looking where they should have been going, and they slammed into each other. Both apologized before even knowing who they had hit. Mary looked up first, and brushed a bright scarlet,’Oh’, she started. Then Jake looked up. He said nothing just took a long hard look.
“Snapping out of it, Jake stood up and continued toward his science class. Mary quickly collected her thoughts, and also continued on her mission to her locker.”
“After Jake had returned his textbook, he took his time back to the car, completely forgetting about his impatient mother. Mary also took her time, as she started back toward the front of the school, to begin her long walk home. They both turned the corner at the same time.”
“As soon as Mary saw Jake she blushed furiously. She recognized him only as the boy she slammed into earlier. She sped up her pace to try and get to the door before he could talk to her.
“When Jake turned the corner he recognized her immediately as the girl he had bumped into. Looking outside, he noticed, that she didn’t seem to have a ride home. He had to pick up the pace a bit, but he caught up to her before she got to the door,’Hey’, He started mildly amused at how red her face was,’ Do you have a ride home?’
“When Mary heard the question it took her a second to comprehend, that a guy like this was talking to a girl like her, ‘Why does it matter to you?’ She answered his question, with a question.
“Jake just sighed and answered his reply, ‘Fine, bye, see you next year...’ and he started walking away. He hoped that the girl would call him back, change her mind, and answer his question. When he heard the small, ‘Wait’ He smiled.
“Mary watched the boy walk away. With a sigh she quietly said, ‘Wait!’ Watching him stop and turn around smiling made her realize, he was just playing with her. Glaring at him, she stormed off in the direction of her house.
“Jake frowned as soon as he realized his mistake. He had turned back toward his car when Destiny decided to step in yet again. It whispered in his ear, ‘Go after her. You know to go after her. Chase her down. Don’t let her escape you again.’
“Jake turned toward his mother and quickly flashed the ‘one minute’ sign. His mother didn’t look happy about it, but he ignored her look and chased after the girl he thought he had only met once in the halls.
Suddenly the Storyteller stopped talking. The other children on the bus looked at her with confusion, as she picked up her bag and slung it over her shoulders. When they continued staring at her, she sighed and pointed toward the school, just in time for the bus to stop. She stood up and headed toward her first class.
At Lunch however, she was once around surrounded by a crowd of kids from her bus, all asking to hear the end of the story. Smiling in amusement she retold the beginning for the who were new, then continued where she left off,
“When Jake caught up to the girl he decided the best start would be an apology, ‘I...,’He paused, Jake had never really said I’m sorry before and meant it. Now he was feeling something he had never felt before. For the first time in his life, Jake felt that regret that comes from realizing one’s mistakes. He managed to finish the sentence, ‘I....I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have smiled like that. You probably thought I was being-‘, But the girl had held up her hand not letting him finish.
“Mary heard the boy come up behind her, and heard his apology. Stopping she held up her hand to silence him mid sentence. She turned toward him, and realized, she also had feelings she’s never had before, forgiveness. But she didn’t let her new feeling get in the way of her ability to speak, ‘Why did you chase me, until you caught up enough so I could hear you? Why did you bother even think about apologizing?’
“Jake opened his mouth to respond, then closed it right after. He didn’t have an answer,’Call it...intuition?’ He asked more then replied,’and anyway, do you want a ride home or not?’ He smiled at her. Not the smile from before, but a caring one. Mary was surprised, and grateful. She nodded and followed him to his car.
“When Jake’s mom dropped her off Jake’s eyes widened a small bit, then grew back to normal, ’You live here?!’ He asked her, ‘Yes, why?’, His mouth was slightly agape, and she giggled when she noticed his facial expression. He shook his head and said,’Nothing, just, my little sister’s friend lives here...that’s all.’
“’Oh...’ was her only reply as she climbed out of the car and grabbed her bag. She turned and headed into the house. Not sure exactly what had happened.
“All summer, he kept visiting her house. And they grew closer and closer as companions. Neither was sure exactly when, but by the end of the summer, they were not only friends, but had deeper feeling too. Just two months into school. Both had decided to go to the library for some after school studying. They found out quickly enough that they were both in the building, and decided to study together. They slowly worked their way, subconsciously, to the back of the library, where it’s darker and less traveled. Mary was trying to reach a book, up higher than she could reach, ‘Jake!’ She whispered, ‘Help me get this book down!’ But when she didn’t hear a response, she turned around, just in time to see Jake, passed out on the floor. Not knowing what on earth could have happened, she rushed over to his side, but before she could even get there. She also passed out.
“The two friends woke up both chained together, back to back. They looked around, trying to figure their surroundings, when they both jumped as a loud voice boomed, filling the entire room with it’s malice ,’Adrielle and Samuel, you both thought you get away from me by reincarnating yourselves in the form of two children? And they’re not even strong children, Adrielle, yours is even weaker then your little pet was!’
“Neither of the two understood what was going on. They both started panicking, practically simultaneously. The voiced paused a moment before laughing, then gloating, ‘And what’s even better? Neither of you can ever remember it! Well, I hate to be unfair so I’m going to tell you a story. Be good little children now, and hush up!’ Then the voice started the horrifying tale, of how the two fell in love 650 years earlier, and how they had both been Magicians only interested in wowing a crowd, and getting paid. In one of their shows they tried summoning him, the evil demon Morgaranth. They summoned him perfectly, and the crowd loved it. But, they didn’t however, know how to control it. Horrified they watched the demon tear apart the people in the crowd and then turn on them. The two lovers ran for their lives, leaving behind all that they loved except each other. And according to the demon, he has been trying to find them over 5 other reincarnations, to try to convince them to send him back to the underworld, back to where his life was.
“The children bought up the demon’s story and even agreed to help him. But Fate and Destiny had witnessed the whole thing. And The two Goddesses could stand by watch on the sidelines no longer. Light suddenly filled the small dark room. And two female voices could be heard talking in synchronization
“They started out with their own tale of how the tale was told. According to the two Goddesses, Adrielle and Samuel Were made for each other, not only as lovers, but as holy mages as well. Destiny and Fate picked them both out by hand, before allowing them to come to this world. But unfortunately, the goddesses were not all powerful, and had to work within the laws of the universe. The couple’s sole mission was to defeat Morgaranth, and they would keep being reincarnated until they finally defeated him. But there was a catch, there’s always a catch. Every time they were reincarnated they would forget all of this, and with each new reincarnate it got worse, because they would grow farther and farther apart, physically and spiritually. In the life before last, they angered Morgaranth and he decided to go after them. And in most recent they hadn’t even been able to find each other. While this meant the demon also couldn’t find them, it also meant that they had wasted a life. This time, Fate and Destiny has intervened. They could not allow this life to go wasted. For the past 650 years the couple has been finding and losing each other every time the are born, and then die. This is their last chance to fight Morgaranth, and neither of them were even remotely prepared.
“The two Goddesses finished their side of events, but before they left they unlocked the chains binding the two. The two Goddesses time was running out. They needed Morgaranth defeated, and quickly. But watching the two clueless teens below, they realized, that if they could not save themselves, they could save mankind from Morgaranth. Using the last of their energy the two Goddesses released their own spiritual energy into the children, granting them unlimited lives, and the ability to remember those lives. But their gift was not only for the two reincarnates. Their gift was also for man. And It is said, that every time you feel de ja vu, it’s Destiny and Fate, telling you your where you were supposed to be.”
The Storyteller finished her story and went back to eating her lunch, a few of her classmates stayed waiting, hoping, she would continue with another tale. But she remained silent. Eventually the crowd dispersed leaving her to eat in peace. But one stayed and walked up to her, asked her the one simple question she was always asked, ‘How did you come up with your story today?’ And the Storyteller replied the same way that she always did, ‘Memory.’
