• Fantasy Wars: The Beginning
“Can I go into the forest?” Kala asked for the fifth time that morning.
The king threw up his hands in defeat and chreiked, “You are so pestering! You cant change your mind about anything!” Then her mother added more gently, “Alright if you don’t go too far.” Kala jumped out of her seat kissed her father in the head and said thank you. She skipped all the way to the big double doors leading outside. She walked quietly to the edge of the forest and tentively set foot inside the cover of trees. As soon as she laid down her foot she knew she would like it there. She walked through the forest with confidence, as if she had been there before. She thought she heard twigs snap more than once but dismissed the sounds for animals. She kept on walking, stopping once or twice to look at the flowers and plants. She soon came to a river to wash her dirty hands from the plants. For all she knew they could have been poisonous. She stood again and looked up at a giant cedar in front of her. An idea sprung in her head and she climbed up the first five or so limbs. Then Kala leaped from her perch to the next tree in line, she miss judged the leap and slipped, yet recaught the leaf branch. That was not the strange thing though, she thought she heard a gasp when she jumped. She kept going but the tension in the air and gasps went on. She started to feel suspicious but soon she came back to the castle and felt relief when the feelings of the tension went away. She heaved open the doors and entered the castle with a big grin on her face. She had just been in the woods! But as soon as she had walked a couple steps she frooze, as soon as she heard a voice all too familiar. It was the deep voice of Sir Wilhelm II. Her fiancé. But the part she hated the most was that she really did not love him.
“Where have you been? I have been looking all over for you.” His furious snarl intimidated her. She curtsied to show respect and started.
“I am sorry to have worried you Wilhelm. I have been in the woods and it is beautiful.” She stammered out of fear. Wilhelm looked her in the eye and took her rose red hair in his hand and said,” please don’t got there again. It is dangerous in there.” She shook her head doubtfully and pulled away from him.
“I am sorry Wilhelm, I love it in there. There are lovely flowers and wonders, with fresh air and birdsong.” As she continued her parents came up. “It’s like I was born there.” Her parents stiffened and cast a glance at each other and came to Kala’s side. They took her shoulder and started to talk about her future and her father sent Wilhelm away. But she was not listening she was thinking of the forest and her mind settled on the gasping and the twigs snapping. What was that? Was it a something? Or Some one? The thought sent a shiver through her. Her parents had left her and she was now alone. She walked through the passage to her bedroom. There she sat at the open window and stared into the forest. As she gazed at it she thought she saw a person sitting in a tree. Then in a blink of an eye it was gone. There was a knock at the door.
“Come in.” she said. Her mother came in. She shook her head.
“Get into bed young lady you are going to a meeting tomorrow.” Kala groaned. “But” she continued, “If you do good you may go into the forest in the afternoon after lunch.” Kala’s eyes sparkled and she ran to her bed. Her mother smiled but Kala thought she saw pain and sadness in her mother’s eyes. But Kala thought nothing of it because her mother was perfectly happy. She slipped under the quilts and felt warmth seep into her cold limbs. Her mother bent down kissed her on the forehead and said good-night. She left the room with one lantern lit. It’s dim light illuminating the room making shadows dance. As the princess lay there, in her bed she heard a soft music playing. It was as soft as a feathers carress. The sound made her sleepy and soon she was in a silent and undisturbed sleep.

When she woke she still heard a soft music play. She peered out her window and saw a person in a tree playing an instrument. Then it seemed to see her looking at it and with lightning speed it san out the tree and into the woods. Her eyebrows furrowed with confusion but said nothing at breakfast to her parents. They looked shaken already. So she decided to go for a walk after breakfast. When the king and her mother were busy she slipped away and out the doors. She ran to the cover of trees and gave a silent prayer to the sky that her dress was green. She glided though the underbrush doing her best to be quiet and at the same time keeping her senses out. She stalked on. When she heard a twig snap she stopped to listen. She heard it again. She walked towards it and saw a clearing up ahead. Then she saw something unbelievable. It looked like a village in the trees. She was so awestruck she did not see the creatures prowling nearby. By the time she notice they had come to close. She ran but they were lightning fast. They caught her and sprayed her with a substance that made her feel faint and dizzy. Then everything went black.
