Chapter 1: With love and honor.
Hey, My name is Ayami Joobu, I’m nineteen years old, which means I am not going to tell you my story like William Shakespeare so you can forget it! My rank is 57, I’m the leader of the R sector of the Star Agency. The other members of my team are Barry Watson and Rapheal Victoreo. We’re the smallest and best sector in the agency.
Barry or 19, is a twenty-one year old, American agent who specializes in mechanics. He has blond hair and green eyes, he’s really rugged looking and hardly ever shaves, he’s so lazy that he never wears a shirt, only a stupid blue overcoat that he never washes unless I nag him. He’s a dimwit and is always sleeping when something doesn’t interest him. He’s a heavy drinker and smoker. He also parties all night long, which is a pain. But, I guess he’s kinda cute…..
Rapheal or 30, is a twenty-four year old, Italian agent who is our detective and criminal investigator. He knows all the biggest criminals in the book, he’s also really fast, from what I hear. He has brown eyes and hair, he has glasses and is very handsome, he keeps his shoulder length hair back in a ponytail. He wears jeans and a white shirt constantly, he’s most likely not too concerned with fashion. He always has his face in a book, unless there is a mission in hand. He’s very quiet and always keeps to himself, in fact, he never talks. He’s a lot more mature than that idiot Barry.
As for me, I have blond hair and green eyes. I’m Japanese and I’m the leader, I give all commands to my team. I was trained when I was 17, I only have a little sister who lives with our neighbors. The rest of my family I won’t tell you about. It’s my own business. Well, 78 my superior, told me to write this diary, she told me that I was way too emotional and that I need to pent out my emotions out in here, she also suggested that my sector do the same in the book. I suppose I have no choice. Lemme make this clear though. I despise any woman demanding respect, you people make me sick! You are sexist of your own sex, you think that women are so helpless of men, and that we can’t gain our own respect, you are about to experience a real woman who earns what she deserves. Maybe you all can learn from me.
Anyway, I guess you can say I’m an “average” nineteen year old, if you consider living in the Star Agency HQ that hovers over Jupiter, normal. Than sure, I’m very normal. I’m also in command of two men who are older than me. So I suppose that’s normal……
At any rate, it was really early this morning when I woke up, I looked at the clock next to my bed, it was around 5:00 A.M. I could’ve gone back to sleep, sure, but when I wake up, I stay awake. And I really don’t mind waking up early at all. In fact, it’s really one of my favorite things to do. What woke me up wasn’t myself, but Barry, the man can snore the mummies awake if he wanted to….. The idiot had his sheets draped over his face, as if that wasn’t normal for him…. I sat up in bed and looked over at Rapheal’s bed, it was empty and well made, either he was awake, or he never went to bed, either way, I knew he was probably in our sector’s lounge area.
I walked into the lounge, and there he was, reading his book. He reads so much, he could probably finish a book series in only an hour. His soft brown eyes looked up at me, they dilated and focused back on his book, he covered his face inside of his book. Huh, that was weird…. I just got some coffee and sat next to him at the table. I ran my hands through my untamed hair.
“Morning….” I greeted yawning.
“How soft her skin…..
How soft her lips….
Those golden locks matches her body, so thin….
Her wavy hips….
Hypnotize me until I can’t see…..” Rapheal said suddenly.
“Huh?” I looked at him bewildered. “Is that a poem you thought of yourself?” I asked.
Rapheal’s big brown eyes focused on mine, he sunk his face farther into his book this time, “Ah, yes….you see…..I’m in love with this beautiful woman….” he said.
“It’s really good……are you going to recite it for her?” I asked.
He nodded. “If y-y-ou want….I can say more…” he said quietly.
“I’d love that,” I smiled happily.
At that moment Barry shuffled in with a huge groan that roared from his mouth. He placed his hand on his head as if he was in pain. He smelled of liquor and tobacco.
“You were up all night partying again, weren’t you?!” I yelled at him.
He flinched, “Shut up will ya! My head isn’t in the right shape to listen to your nagging self…..” he groaned.
I simply pouted and listened to Rapheal’s poetry again.
“She is the light to my life….
She is the sun to my moon….
She is the cause of my stride…
She leaves me as I may loom….” he said.
Barry stopped and looked confused. “What the heck is that crap, witch craft?!” he said with an annoyed look on his face.
“No…..it’s poetry, I’m surprised you are uneducated of such a simple work of literature!” Rapheal said calmly.
“I’m not…..” I looked away from Barry’s glaring stare.
Barry almost said something but suddenly the red alert alarm signaled. A mission! I ran to the transmission computer. 78 came on to the screen. 78, or Sherryl Angus Aran, (the only Irish woman with a masculine middle name) is the head honcho in charge of the whole agency, she’s pretty strict but understanding. She is feared by every agent, that’s no surprise, she is really tough. A black belt in Karate, Judo and Tae Kwon Do. She had red hair, wore this blue jump suit constantly, with a blue scanner, it matched her intimidating cerulean eyes.
“57, report!” she said aloud.
“Yes ma’am!” I saluted.
“There is a disturbance on Eris, the non-planet past Pluto.” she said showing a map of the planet.
“What’s the problem?” I asked looking at the map.
“Reports came in from a new family who moved there recently…. They have reported to have seen multiple murders and suicides, yet when they reported it to the police, they were turned away and told that it was apart of their imagination. What’s more, is the fact that the citizens act as if nothing’s happened.” she said pointing to the photo of the city.
“That’s disturbing…..so where do we come in…?” I asked.
“You, 19, and 30 will report to Eris and go undercover as new residents, go and research this strange behavior. But be warned, do not let them know you are aware of the strange reports…..you act as clueless as someone who is blind. Got it? Ok, 78 out!” she said saluting as the screen went black.
So with that I nodded to my sector. 19 and 30 nodded back. We got dressed, and headed for Eris. In a few hours we were there.
As we stepped off of the platform we could feel our feet hit the hard and rocky surface. The one thing that bothered me about Eris, was it’s ridiculously cold weather, we should not stay here for more than an hour, TOPS! It’s so cold, that we have to wear special masks to prevent our lungs from freezing over. We walked for a while on the cold and unlivable non-planet. It was a while until we saw a luminous glow in the distance. As we got closer, our destination became clear. In plain site was the Durcheinander
dome. A Civilization of German descendents. Their government is based on old political parties. Apparently they do not approve of democracy or communism. From what I hear, they are fascist, whatever that means.
Eventually we arrived at the dome’s front gate and opened the hatch door. Each dome has a hatch door that protects from the elements outside. These domes help to protect the refugees from Earth for without them we wouldn’t have any life outside Earth.
We came to a large round gate at the end of the large corridor following the hatch. A large and well attended guard stood at the gate.
He held his arm out in a stop position. “Halt! Who goes there?” he said in the most clichéd way imaginable.
I brought out my badge and flashed it at him. He stared at it for a few seconds and looked me straight in the eyes. He flashed a grin as soon as he saw my face. “Wow, you have really pretty eyes miss…” he smiled.
I blushed a little before answering, “W-we are from the Star Agency! A civilian has reported a disturbance!” I said promptly.
“Ah, I see… well to be honest, I’m kind of disturbed by this place as well. See, the people here are always smiling and what not. And there is never any crime to be had. Which is weird if you ask me. In fact, you three are the very first Star Agents to come to this dome!” he said in a paranoid tone.
“So, have you noticed anything peculiar while being here?” I asked curiously.
“Well, for one thing… anyone who has entered this dome hasn’t come out! Not even for vacations or for any Agency drafts. It’s as if none of them want to leave at all. But why would anyone want to stay in a place where everyone is the same?” he stated with an intrigued expression on his face.
“Are you a resident of this dome?” Rapheal suddenly asked.
“No, see, I’m actually in a separate dome on Dysnomia, you know, the moon of Eris?” he said.
“We know where that’s at stupid!” Barry snapped.
“BARRY!” I yelled at him “You are a spy for God’s sake, act like it!” I commanded. I focused my attention back at him. “So, you’re saying you only stay attention at the gate all day and then return to Dysnomia?” I asked curiously.
“Yeah, pretty much. I have no interest in staying here. I mean, this place doesn’t even have a leader… well at least, I never see him anywhere.” he said pointing his thumb towards the gate.
“Wait, did you say… him?” I stared at him as if he was foreign sign.
“Well, yeah- that is… people have said that there was a man who ran the place, but he is never seen anywhere, it’s as if he’s in a different place all together.” the guard stated.
“Hm…interesting…” I scratched my chin and looked him in the eyes. “If you would please, we would like to investigate this dome.”
“Ah, sure thing lady. Just be careful not to let the people know you are all from the agency, that would be pretty bad…” he said.
I took my badge back and tucked it away, “And what do you mean by that?” I questioned.
“Well, if word got out that you were from the Agency, the people would try to either drive you out, or try to kill you. They don’t like anyone going against their government, or trying to change their way of life.” he said.
“But, how do you know--”
He interrupted “Let’s just say, I know you are not going to like things in that dome, I know I don’t” he quickly opened the gate and smiled, “Please go on in and enjoy your stay, Eris is a nice little dwarf planet isn’t it?”
We looked at his fake smile as he nodded his head inward, we walked in and heard the gate slowly close behind us.
We walked through the streets and I had this uneasy feeling in my gut. The crowd was perfect. Too perfect, they were smiling and walking in perfect rhythm.
“What do we do, 57?” Barry asked.
“Don’t call me 57!” I snapped in a hushed voice, “If they know who we are we are dead! Call me Ayami and I will call you by your first names, got it?” I asked annoyed.
Barry stuttered, “U-uh yeah, s-s-sorry, Ayami.” he said.
Rapheal stopped in front of me, he turned towards me and pointed to a little building, “Shall we rest here for the night, Miss Joobu?” Rapheal asked.
“It’s Ayami!” I pouted annoyed at Rapheal’s formality. “And yes, that is a perfect idea, Rapheal, it is getting late, and we’ll look more like tourists that way.” I said with a smile.
“Can we go now?” Barry groaned behind me, “My legs hurt and I’m sick of standing around with these idiots grinning at me.” he whined.
“Stop whining! What are you, a man, or a stupid little teenage girl?!” I yelled at him.
Barry glared at me with disdain he muttered something as we entered the building. We reached the front counter which looked as ugly and tacky as the hotel itself. At the desk stood a blond bimbo who was popping her gum and staring at the TV in front of her. Her blue eyes looked up at me, her eyelids smearing her overused amount of eye shadow. She sighed and rolled her eyes, “Welcome to the Hit Inn, how may I help you?” she asked without much of any enthusiasm.
“Yes, um…room for three please?” I asked.
“Ok…” she sighed typing in something on the laptop next to her. She then looked at us and handed us a ticket, “Here, enjoy your stay,” she said.
I looked at the ticket and noticed it said two beds, “Um, excuse me…” I said politely handing the ticket to her.
“Just go up stairs to the right, you’ll find your room” she said trying to desperately get rid of me.
“Uh…thanks, I guess.” I said with an annoyed look on my face. I walked upstairs with Rapheal and Barry trailing behind me, “Stupid cow…” I muttered going up the steps.
We all got into the room, taking with us our capsules that contained our luggage. So, I chose to sleep with Rapheal, since Barry destroys his sheets while he sleeps. So I sat next to Raphea on the bed, in my night shirt and pants, I brushed my hair out and talked a little with him as Barry took a shower.
“So, Miss Joobu, what did you think of that woman at the front desk?” he asked curiously.
“She seemed different, as if she had free will, while the others in the dome are all…smiling…” I stated.
“Yes, I noticed that as well, it is very odd and intriguing…” Rapheal scratched his chin with his eyes focused on the tacky sheets spread out before us.
“So, what do you think it means?” I asked.
“Well, if you ask me, it appears that she might be a new resident, and that she is untouched by the way of life here in Durcheinander.” he said.
“I believe you are right, but we will have to question her later,” I said. No way am I going back down there tonight. I have no patience for her rude little crabby self… I thought to myself.
Rapheal nodded, “Indeed Miss Joobu, we must rest for now.”
“For God’s sake, call me Ayami!” I snapped resting my head on the pillow.
As I laid in the bed I could feel my eyes getting heavy. Tomorrow, I would need to investigate everyone in Durcheinander. But I don’t want to stay here too long, if I have to see those stupid smiles every second I’m here, I’m going to go NUTS! I eventually fell asleep and forgot all of my troubles for the day. Tomorrow, we find some clues.
End Transmission…
