- Night had fallen on Crystal Lake, enveloping the small town in a black cape of glittering stars and constellations. The almost full moon shone brightly in the sky, lighting the streets in a milky glow. All was quiet except for a few crickets chirping their peaceful summer songs in the humid air. The Girl stood in front of the black iron gate to Crystal Lake's richest neighborhood- Statley Pines. She looked up and down the street in front of the gate, looking for bright, white headlights roaring down the street towards her. The road was empty and silent so she started her plan. It was what she did every few nights for a reason she was unsure of. She started climbing up the side of the iron gate, ignoring the icy temperature of the twisted black metal. She jumped over the top and landed on the other side like a cat. She got up and went off down the two-lane street, divided by a tree-lined curb. There were no houses yet, but she knew this neighborhood well enough and knew they would begin appearing soon. As she walked farther, the country club loomed in the distance, getting bigger as she got closer. The large magnificent windows were dark and still as if they were asleep. The four large marble poles by the grand enterence were shiny in the moonlight. She looked to her left at the country club's swimming pool across the street from the club. The pool lights were on and gave the enormous pool a light green tint. She turned left towards the estates. She could see the statley homes in the distance, their lights glowing with such cheerfulness and warmness that she felt a twinge of sadness and lonliness. She walked past a few mansions, glancing in the windows as she passed, watching as the families inside did their 8 o'clock PM activities. She noticed by watching that the family members were spread out around their elegant houses. They were distant. Somehow, this made her angry. These people had families that they could be spending time with! If her family was with her, they would always be close. Sure they had moments where they went solo around the house, but they were still close. They just don't know how lucky they are, she thought. Halfway down the road, she stopped in front of her favorite house. It was cream-colored with pink doors and shutters and a little one-floor in-law apartment at the end. It had a large half oval window above the frosted glass door and four gray poles. She glanced in the windows and she was stunned at what she saw. Through one of the windows out front, she could see a room at the back of the house. In that room was the blonde and brown-haired girls she saw leaving the Sarah's! She noted with jealousy how they happily sat in front of the TV together, eating junk food and laughing together. She walked away quickly, trying to release the grip the bitter lonliness had on her heart.
