• The rain shot from the sky like bullets from a gun. The thunder rumbled and lightning cut through the sky with a vengeance of a warrior’s sword. No one would be caught outside in such weather unless the wished to die.

Naomi LeBeau didn’t wish to die; she just wanted to escape, to get away. She’s popular, always has been, with strawberry blond hair that went waste deep and sparkled in the light. Big eyes that looked blue one moment then violet the next. Those eyes drew the attention of others, which makes them wonder what secrets she has. Her body is lean, with enough curves to make the boys at her school drool at her feet. She is the captain of the cheer-leading squad and appears happy to all but deep down there is restlessness within her that she couldn’t explain.

Naomi felt suffocated. Her parents never allow her to do anything “no Naomi you can’t go out with boy until you finish school. Your education is more important” her mother would say. All I wanted was to go to Toronto with Dmitri Collin to watch Shine Down, one of the greatest bands on earth thought Naomi but no her parents wouldn’t allow it. Well once Naomi has her mind set on something, there’s no way to change it. The thing is Dmitri already left with Sally Durham. That is why Naomi is out in this horrible weather alone walking, to find another way there.

Four miles out of town and still no cars passed. Naomi was dead on her feet. How long has it been since I left the house; she couldn’t say but it felt like an eternity. She was cold, hungry and miserable. She thought she’d get a thrill disobeying her parents, but all she felt now was loneliness and sick. To make matters worse she was lost, didn’t know where she was. Her cell phone can’t get any service, she’s soaked to the bone, and it’s too dark to see.

She wondered if her parents even knew she was gone and if they did, would they look for her. Naomi didn’t want to cry but felt like crying. She kept walking hoping to come across at least a house or gas station. Dragging her feet, with head bent down she heard an engine. Her head snapped up, she looked around but couldn’t see anything. When she started to believe it was her imagination, she saw it. Lights. Oh she screamed with joy. Just up ahead was a car coming her way. She thanked God, now all she had to do was get the car to stop. So she started waving her hands like a lunatic. The driver slowed down as it neared her. It came to a complete stop beside. The man rolled down his window and said “need a lift?”

“Yes, thank you very much sir”

She climbed in the car, grateful for the warmth. She turns in her seat to study the man who picked her up. He wasn’t that bad looking. High cheek bones, black hair that curled at his ears; golden brown eyes and a lean, muscular body. All in all he was a stunner. He turned his head towards her, his eyes piercing, like he can see right through her to her soul.

“So where are you heading?” the stranger asked
“I’m going home to Flynn Bay”

“Really I’m heading there myself. Good thing I came along, if you stayed out there any longer you would have frozen to death” relief washed over her like big title wave. Finally she thought, I can go back home to my cozy bed.

She turned to look at the stranger again. I never even asked him his name, but all I know is that I owe him big time. She turned back around and gazed through the window. Then she noticed it, that they weren’t heading to Flynn Bay. He must have taken the wrong road. She opened her mouth to tell him, then she knew. He knew where he was going.

That night the screams of a young girl, barely a woman, went unheard as the raging storm went on.
