• The fire crackled as she watched the flames leap upwards. Again rose the thought in her mind how such beauty existed in her world of bleakness. His voice travels back to her from the far recesses of her mind.
"I love you." he whispered, grasping her hands and looking at her with those soulful brown eyes. She had turned away, his seeking lips landing on her cheek instead of their intended target.
"Just a little longer..."she begged, her green eyes searching for a compromise. He gave her a sad, but understanding smile and gently kissed her lips, the faint trace of strawberries on them. She should have suspected it then, but how could she when she herself owned strawberry chapstick? He laughed and said goodbye, walking away towards his home and leaving her in the darkness of her porch.
Now she stood on his front porch, the lighter burning in her hand. Her eyes traveled upwards to the windows of his room. Within she could see two silhouettes kissing passionately, on of them the man she had once kissed her own way.
The sick aroma of lighter fluid came up from the ground where she had splattered it around his home. A smirk alighted on her lips as she flicked the lighter to the ground, the fluid catching faster than she had thought.
From a far distance, shrouded in darkness and forest she watched the two lovers burn until the whole house was afire. She turned away, blocking her ears to the screams and alarms, thinking of only strawberry chapstick.
