She sat there as the sun rose over the eastern horizon. Crimson and gold light sparkled off the dew drenched grass. Birds could be heard in the distance, waking and eager to greet the new day. A soft breeze blew through the magnolias, causing a few wind chimes to sing out their melodies. The spring breeze was cool and smelled of sweet honeysuckle. In one hand she held her favorite novel, and in the other she held a warm cup of coffee freshly brewed. In the fields the colts bucked and kicked, stretching from their nights sleep. It was the type of morning most people only dream of. In fact, it was all a just a dream. That was the problem.
The sounds of the city woke her from her peaceful dream life. Outside, the din of honking horns and screaming people reminded her of where she was in her life. She was in her mid 30's, no kids, and a corporate job she hated. She turned to look at the man she loved so dear. They were so young when they met, and they had so many plans. So many dreams. She wondered what went wrong. Then remembered, it was because the call of the big city was too tempting to pass up. When she was young, the city seemed so exciting, but now.
She pulled the covers back, taking care not to disturb her love. He was always so happy in the mornings, and his giddy loving smile was not something she was wanting to see this morning. She rubbed the sleep from her eyes and got up as quietly as she could. The floor was as cold as usual, even in the warm months of spring and summer. She reached for her slippers and slipped them on. She took a deep breath and thought to herself, "one day."
