“Aurelia! You found her!” Janiquil’s eyes were wet and watery pearl drops slid down her cheeks. Leaving straight lines that were seemingly cut into her pale face.
“Yes, but she’s in a bad shape. Those bastards…” Justin nudged Aurelia’s unconscious head gently, causing it to loll towards the petrified girl. Showing her the many cuts and bruises set deep in the pain ravaged features.
“OH GOD! She’s injured so bad. We need to get Aurelia to a hospital right away!” Janiquil’s tears fell faster and she started urging Justin along, until the other girl intervened.
“Bring her to my home. I can heal her.” Her voice was calm and steady, seemingly capable of soothing the excitable Janiquil. Indeed, Justin found himself being pushed in the opposite direction, away from a panicking Isola, away from the Herinodia Hospital.
“Hey! What are you doing? For all we know Aurelia might die and you’re going to trust the words of this girl?” Justin was puzzled, until Janiquil turned to face him with fierce tears in her chocolate eyes.
“Listen up buddy; I’d known you for a shorter period of time that I’ve known Dawan. If I can trust you to help find my best friend, I can definitely trust my best friend forever to help me heal my best friend.” She continued shoving Justin along, this time, with silent cooperation as the quartet raced towards the little faded green house there that Dawan and her twin lived in.
Once there, Dawan utterly transformed from looking like a sweet, timid girl to a stern, calm nurse.
“Janiquil, show the boy to my medical room. Boy, put Aurelia in a bed. Janiquil will show you which one. I’ll come up shortly. Dusek, I’ll need my herbs.” Dawan began issuing orders and the second after she had done so, Justin found himself being guided forcefully, to what Dawan called her medical room, which was on the second floor of the four story building.
Inside, Janiquil directed Justin towards the bed below a window and bid him place Aurelia’s unconscious form on it. He did so and after he was done, Janiquil forced him out of the room, haughtily arguing that such things were the business of a girl.
As she had finally succeeded, Dawan swept into the room, an apron with a pocket in the middle tied around her slender waist. Firing speeches rapidly, Dawan made Janiquil stepped back into the room before she slammed the thick oak door in Justin’s face. Once she had gotten rid of the menace, Dawan turned her attention to helping the unconscious Aurelia.
“Jam, strip her. We need to clean those wounds.” Nodding in obedience, Janiquil struggled to obey, forcing herself to ignore the fact that it was her best friend and not any old stranger. While she was doing so, Dawan busied herself with examining some of the wounds lining the exposed flesh.
Making a little “tsk, tsk” noise at the back of her throat, Dawan grabbed a couple of herbs and a pedstle before she started grinding the herbs into a powdery form. Adding a tiny bit of fresh water to the mixture, the mixture turned into a kind of paste form which she then used to cover up the thin lines of pain.
Next, she pulled out a roll of white gauze and wrapped a long line of it around the soothed wounds, careful to be gentle and once done, she waved a hand over Aurelia’s still unconscious figure, chanting a string of words under her breath. Which Janiquil knew weren’t anything, but a prayer for Aurelia; that she could recover faster.
Dressing the healing girl, Dawan gently tucked a blanket around her and pulled out a necklace. Hanging from the end of the silver chain, was a beautiful charm of a soft, rising sun.
Ignoring Janiquil’s curious gaze, she pressed her lips lightly to the charm and placed it around Aurelia’s neck. Closing the clasp gently once the chain was neatly secured around the latter’s neck.
“It's temporary. I sensed a dark presence around her. She needs extra protection while she is resting.” Dawan explained as she started to clean up her used materials. A worried look gracing her features. Janiquil bit her lip in a vain attempt at keeping tears away. She knew that look. Dawan usually only gave it when she was really worried about something, otherwise, she wouldn’t be worried at all.
The two girls exited the room, and nearly bumped into the tensed up person known as Justin. Dusek met them with an apologetic gleam in his dark eyes. But only Dawan really knew that he wasn’t the slightest bit so. After all, identical thoughts roamed their brain.
“How is she?” Justin could barely refrain from clutching Dawan and possibly shaking her to bits in his haste and she met his eyes with her calm grey ones.
“Perfectly fine. She’ll be alright. But she needs her rest. It would be wise of you to refrain from disturbing her.” With the lingering words, she vanished into one of the other rooms and Janiquil followed.
