I stood up. Ugh, this flying thing wasn't easy. I rubbed at my lower back.
Charlie looked at me for a moment. "You probably shouldn't tell mommy and daddy. They might be curious at you...plus, they might think that-"
I drownded out the rest of what he said, because he was right. I couldn't tell mom or dad. But how could I get my wings to not rip my shirts? Fairy stories seemed cheesy for me; they couldn't tell you reality as much as they could tell you a halfway decent storyline. So that idea was out. I thought of one thing.
Travis, my boyfriend. He always understood.
But how would I get him to my house? He was in L.A.
I smiled at began to rise up in the air. Then I realized what is took to fly- it was dumb, but it took happiness. I rolled my eyes. This was like one of those kiddy fairytales.
"Charlie, I gotta go to L.A and you can't tell mom and dad. Travis will understand." I explained.
"But won't people notice you? I did, I can see those wings from a mile away...people will think you're weird. They'll take photos. And there's also school..."
"Charlie, it's summer. And I already have an idea for the wings. But I need dad's overcoat."
Charlie grabbed Dad's overcoat off the side of the couch. "Yeah, bye."
I hugged him. "I love you."
He smiled at me and then walked away.
I put on the overcoat and looked at the house on last time before I left for the airport.

As soon as I stepped into L.A, I wondered where Travis was. I called him.
"Hey, this is Travis."
"Travis? This is your girlfriend."
"Lizzie? No way! I've been missing you like crazy, honey. I love you and...wait, where are you? I want to see you. I want to show you the sights and..."
"We can't. I'll meet you at Hard Rock Cafe. I can explain everything later. I love you too, and I miss you so much. But I'm not supposed to be here in California. Only Charlie knows. I trust him enough with it." I said.
"What? Why? Is something wrong, darling? Oh, I'll be there."
I called a taxi and he drove me there.
I saw Travis.
"You're so beautiful," He said, giving me a hug.
I smiled. I had never kissed anyone. Not Travis even.
"Thanks. We better go to the hotel..."
"Why?" Travis asked.
"Because people will stare.."
"You didn't do something evil, right?" He questioned.
"Stop asking questions and lets go! We need to get back to Florida. But first Birchwood Hotel."
He grabbed me by the arm. "I don't think you should." Travis said.
I looked up at him. "Come on."
"Fine! But you owe me." He said.
"No I don't."
And we went.
I slammed the door.
Then I pulled off the overcoat and exposed my wings.
"Oh my god, you love fairies. I don't think this will work-" Travis began.
"No! It kind of just, happened. Don't mistake me for Barbie."
He laughed and pulled me close.
I hugged him and he pulled me to the balcony. Then he pulled me close again and leaned in.
Then I understood and we closed our eyes.
And we kissed.
I felt awkward. How did he still love me with the wings? How was he not betrayed and startled and brokenhearted?
He kissed me again.
I pulled away.
"What's wrong!?" He asked angrily.
"How do you love me yet? I HATE my wings! And you LOVE them!" I sobbed.
He hugged me and and pulled away.
"I'm going back to Florida. You're right. This will NEVER work out!" I yelled, and ran out the door. I felt stupid for saying what I did. Was he not my boyfriend?
I ran back in and saw something terrible.
A blonde, gorgeous girl who looked like the cheer captain at my school walked in the room, wearing something that Britney Spears would wear.
And she kissed Travis.
And thats when I fainted.
I ran out of the building when I woke up. But not without slapping them both first.
Back in Florida, Mom and Dad hated me. Charlie snitched.
I was crying and crying for longer than I could ever imagine..
