• I looked at my surroundings feeling dazed, confused, I had never been here before. The walls were are light mahogany everything decorated elegantly with gold’s and bronze. I slowly rose to my feet and as if my surroundings were materializing as the seconds past, people began to appear around me. I slowly stood taking in the ugly printed red and gold carpeting. I then studied the people. People of all ages and race walked around me paying no mind to my standing frail form. Could they even see me? They were dressed to the nines with lavish clothing and jewelry to match. I did not fit in.
I took a step and then another, I began to get the feeling I was in a hotel of some sort. It was most likely a five star. As I continued on my journey I passed a few wooden doors with golden plated numbers at the top of them. As I reached a corner there sat a potted plant on a stand.
Once again I took in my surroundings as if my life was on the line as if I did not remember every person that passed and every detail to this hallway I would die.
Then I saw him, rushing towards me. I knew then I was his goal and he was the reason I was here. As he approached me I took in each characteristic this man’s face held. His skin was the colour clay, his hair darker then a starless night. I then saw it, his eyes; they were empty like the deepest part of space.
The man stopped abruptly in front of me slightly out of breath; he composed himself and then looked me straight in the eye.
"Miss Stone" He asked extending his hand towards me motioning for me to take it. He had a heavy accent; it sounded Indian, although I could be wrong.
"yes?" I questioned returning his gaze.
"The Presentation is about to start, I have been sent to retrieve you to make sure you do not miss it." He smiled.
I studied him for a moment and then took his hand.
He guided me through many halls until we came to what seemed like a lobby. There were many men and women of different ages in business attire. They were talking among each other, all with one common interest in mind. Money.
I made my way to the group and saw there was a screen with the projection of a building. The lights then dimmed and a man who looked very much like the man that had led me here stood. He cleared his throat and began to explain why he had gathered everyone here. He started explaining how he was going to be doing some construction, although since I tuned him out to study the people around me, I wasn't quite sure what the grand scheme was. He then explained how this would make everyone a lot of money if they just invested a said amount.
My ears then perked up to this.
"For all those in please raise your hand" The man giving the presentation said.
I looked around and everyone raised their hand and I began to wave mine to get his attention.
He looked at me questionably. "Yes Miss Stone?"
"Yes" I paused "I do not have any money, I am very poor, so I do not see how this pertains to me."
I could hear a slight chuckle whispering within the crowd.
Although, the man giving the presentation did not laugh, He merely smiled. A look of accomplishment on his face. Slightly puzzled by this I stood in the crowd confused by everyone's reaction to my statement.
"That is fine Miss Stone. I will have my assistant take you to the other demonstration." The man spoke softly, bowing slightly as if to give me respect.
The man who had brought me to the presentation then appeared to bring me to a different one. He lead me out of the crowd and then out of the crowd and across the lobby to a stand.
"Please just wait here until the others are finished" The man spoke making sure I understood.
I nodded my head and waited I then heard people screaming and an explosion erupting from behind me. Smoke and silence filled the room. I looked around to see blood, a lot of blood, splattered everywhere, I then saw a man’s head roll out of the smoke and split open in front of me. I stood stunned, disgusted, and mortified. I could feel a scream erupting inside of me but it failed to escape my lips. My body felt numb, it felt cold. Dizziness plagued me and I could feel myself falling. Before I could hit the ground I could feel arms wrap around me, although they were not arms of comfort. They were arms of torture, aggression, and satisfaction. I was raised back to my feet and the man who had given the presentation stood in front of me. Clean as a whistle. No dust, no blood, no signs of an explosion on this man.
"Disgusting" He muttered looking at the scene. "They were all filled with greed." He spoke confidently. No second thoughts about what had happened. "They would not have cared what I did, as long as it meant money in their pockets, they were okay with it." He paused and then looked to my trembling form. Tears silently running down my blood splattered face. "Although you" He rose his hand to caress my face. "You did not want that. You saw the evil and you left, even if it would benefit you. You took the high road. You are the kind of person I am trying to find." He smiled looking at the scene again. "I can trust that you will not mention this to anyone. We would not want to ruin the presentation for the others."
I silently nodded, my eyes wide with astonishment. I could not believe this. I knew what I had to do. I walked slowly away from the scene. The entire catastrophe replaying my mind. Those people did not deserve that, regardless of their greed. Regardless of what they would do for money. That was wrong.
I began to pick up my speed running, I had to find people, to tell them, to warn them. There was a crazy man on the loose. I stopped everyone on my way to god knows where. Trying to tell them, tell them there was a great darkness, they had to be cautious, although none would have it. I ran outside and onto a train that had stopped at the station outside of the hotel and told everyone sitting of my experience. Some were concerned, although I was not sure if they were concerned for me or themselves.
Then I saw him, running down the aisle towards me. His eyes were darker than before, they were now a whirlpool of malice and anger. He vigorously grabbed my forearm and pulled me off the train.
“Idiot! I told you not to say a word, to speak of this to no one, yet you go around and tell everyone walking this bloody earth.” Madness was laced within his voice, like venom, spreading throughout him with every word spoken.
I was blindfolded and brought into a room and sat on a chair.
“You had your chance, now it’s over”
I finally erupted in shouts and screams, letting out all the fear, all of the anger, and all of sadness, until I was there no more.
