For the longest portion of our history we had our definitions all wrong. We would dream of the fantastic, of They that Never Was, of gods, and devils. We saw ourselves as the top of the pyramid, nothing would ever overcome our might, all was here to label, to maim, destroy, use, claim, in the name of our gods or otherwise. We had no true capacity for what it was we said. Our mouths knew no truth. When They came we learned the meaning of our terms. We learned how wrong we saw things.
In days of old, anything mythical was a Monster. Monsters to us at the time were simply anything unknown. Now, we find ourselves with perfect clarity of the mind. The serial killer is not a Monster. The dog that was abused, and bit the hand that feeds, was no Monster. Monsters are simple. Monsters are the beings that arose, that had no concept of murder, possession, compassion. Monsters simply do what drives them to the core. They make violence. Monsters are violent above all else, an embodiment of the most primal form. Never for revenge, never for justice, never for a cause. Simply violence, in its pure, beautiful, original form. That is what drove the monsters.
The murderers of yore that were once branded as Monsters, clarity revealed to us that they were Maniacs. The Maniacs do not commit violence for violence. They do not even commit violence in its purest form. They instead commit themselves to machinations that we the Meek would never know. Unforeseen gods and purposes drive the Maniacs in their twisted worlds, whispering into the blackened cradle of their hearts ,driving them to do inconceivable things. The Maniacs are they who are driven by Not of Themselves. It has no true name, simply put it is the voice that all of us hear in our heart of hearts, that only the Maniacs become curious enough to take seriously.
In the times when the worst things we had to worry about was ourselves, or rather the ill-defined aberrations that were dispersed among us, there was an era when certain groups would have stumbled across the correct name for a certain type of entity, but never come to grasp the importance of Definition. They were the KKK, and they were terrible. They were also exceptionally mundane compared to today. Their leaders were the Dragons. A Dragon was once by definition a majestic reptilian creature with demi-godlike properties. We now understand that anything has the capacity to become such a creature. A Dragon is a being driven by the Self. The antithesis to the Maniac, no unforeseen machination is here. Whether it be greed or vanity, the Dragon seeks to better themselves at the expense of anything that it takes to do so. Their Drive is easily just as primal as that of the Monster, except that the Dragon has a plan that leads to, and beyond the end game.
The last two Definitions we have come to learn so far, in this strange new era, are far more complex, and are prone to mingling with the many other Drives and Definitions of the others. The first is Those who are Far Beyond Driven. Nothing drives them. A peculiar silence fills their mind. They once had a cause, but lost it along the way. Through a form of self induced insanity, these creatures came to be. In days of old we called it the search for Enlightenment. Now we know there is no such thing, only Nothing waits for they who strive to see beyond. but there is something sadder than the Enlightened even. These are the most recently Defined. The beings with a true propensity for creation. These poor souls can overlap across any spectrum, especially the ones we have yet to Define.
The Demiurge. The creators. The imprisoned. The Forgotten. Bleak definitions for something celebrated. The reason is easy to see however. To create is to write oneself away, pound by pound, drop by drop. To create is to mark your surroundings with yourself, losing yourself in the process. Our gods of yore never showed themselves to us, because by the time they had achieved or created enough to become Myths or Legends, they were already gone. Ordinary things all around us. Friends, animals, anything with a heartbeat. These are the Demiurge. The ones that sacrifice themselves to give the world around them existence. Whether benevolent or malicious, only the desire to spread their own brand of love or hatred is what drives them, and they lose themselves in the process, in their own brilliance.

- Description: A basis for a much larger project of mine. It is not perfect, but it is something I plan to build from for a much larger undertaking. There is a severe meaning behind our words and how we use them, and this is merely a footnote to a story about attempting to understand them.
