Teenager’s Bill of Rights
We, the teenagers of this world, who have received the following responsibilities from our predecessors: the responsibility for the survival of the planet and human kind; the responsibility to be the future leaders of this world and the responsibility to be the transferors of the cumulative knowledge and the cultural, ethical and religious values, to future generations, hereby declare as our universal rights:
I. Healthy life: To grow up as strong and healthy adults, we have the right to be provided with healthy food and adequate medical care.
II. Good Education: To be able to carry out our responsibilities as future leaders, we have the right to be provided a ‘well-balanced’ education.
III. Moral Values: To carry out responsible and well thought actions, we have the right to be provided with well organized conventions that prepare us to differentiate between what is right and what is wrong.
IV. Responsibility: To be able to differentiate between what is our duty and what is not, we must be taught responsibilities as adults.
V. To be explained when some one says “No.”: To be able to understand the reasons behind a yes and a no, we have the right to get an explanation. As humans, we all have the right to be explained the reasons of certain actions; do you think teenagers should also have this right?
VI. To be listened in a family discussion: To be able to learn the principle of democracy, we have the right to participate (limited to our capabilities) in the decisions taken by our families. As people that have the right of free speech, teenagers should be included when there is a discussion. We should remember that everyone’s opinion should be worth listening.
VII. To say sorry when we screw up: Every one makes mistakes, we are not perfect! To be able to say “I am sorry” when we screw up, we must be able to practice it and be believed when we are kids. Teenagers are in a process of learning between what is right and wrong, when we screw up, let us explain the reasons of why adults should pardon us.
VIII. To be treated with respect: To be able to distinguish between discipline and abuse, we have the right to be treated with respect. Abusing people is a terrible mistake, and no one will be physically or mentally abused for unjust reasons. Remember abuse is against the law.
IX. To learn how to drive: To be able to learn to be responsible drivers and be able to help when there is an emergency at home; All teenagers by law get their license at sixteen, but we have to receive adequate training before we put ourselves to drive in the streets. Remember we do not want any teenager dead.
X. To Party: We should all have time to get entertained, shopping and party; as long as we follow the rules given by our parents. This way we will become well balanced human being.
