What is Architecture?
Architecture is the blend of art and science in the design of environments for people. People need a place to eat, sleep, work, play, and live. Architects transform these needs into buildings that suite them. The key elements in making architecture are decision-making, team leadership, and creativity.
An architect is the person who plans the layout of the architecture. An architect serves in the leadership role to bring together the design requirements set by the client. When an architect is deciding how to build a structure he thinks about the health, safety, and welfare of the general public and the users of the building.
There are many different styles of architecture. Some of these include Victorian, contemporary, Renaissance, and art deco. All structures such as churches, homes, bridges, and skyscrapers have their own unique style of architecture. The differences between these styles of architecture are the materials used to create them, the lines and details used, their distinguishing colors, and shape.
The architecture of some buildings is so interesting that they are considered art. These buildings include the Egyptian pyramids, Taj Mahal, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, and the Guggenheim Museum. People today still study and are amazed how these and many other unique structures were constructed.
Architecture has and will continue to change as time goes by. It is an important part of our world’s history. For that reason it is important to preserve structures and buildings so future architects and historians can learn about the past.
