I'm chained to the ground in my life, looking at the birds that fly by and the people jumping up high into the sky,
While all I can to is sigh because I'm afraid to break away,
Yet I want to be free and alive.
I pray for help but no one comes,
And even when I yell out as hard as I can, the only thing that meets me is the wind.
I laugh at myself in disbelief at the thought I could be up there,
But before I walk away, I notice a couple of kids jumping as hard as they can.
At first I was thought how silly they were being,
Then something amazing happened.
I could see their wings spreading with each jump they took.
The chains that bounded them were starting to crack and break.
They both yelled out as they took their last leap of faith.
Wings spread, chains broken, gravity suspended.
They were flying.
In awe, I watched them laugh in delight as they flew away.
I was about to turn in disgust,
But then it hit me.
No one can set you free but yourself.
You have to grow your own wings.
I looked at myself and I started to jump.
I began to jump harder and harder in determination to break the chains.
With all my might, I jumped,
But nothing had happened.
I didn't let my disbelief get in my way.
I jumped hour after hour.
Nothing worked.
In despair, I gave up.
What was I doing wrong?
How come I can't get free??
I tried again.
I wasn't about to give up after coming this far.
I started to believe I can set myself free.
I started to believe I could grow my wings and fly.
Then, it all started to happen.
Tiny wings popped out of my back.
The chains were starting to crack.
The tiny wings started to flutter and grow.
The chains were starting to fall apart.
With each valiant jump, I thought of reaching for the sky and touching it.
My wings spread out and matured,
And the chains were crumbling.
I gave a yell and with all my strength and courage, I gave one last leap.
The chains broke and disappeared,
My wings flapped as hard as it could,
And when I thought I was going to fall back to earth, I felt nothing under me.
I started to hear wind rushing past me,
I felt the breeze against my face,
And I opened my eyes.
There I was, flying.
My heart started to beat like crazy.
My eyes were wide open.
My wings were flapping.
I yelled out in victory.
I laughed and flew over to the other people in the sky.
Finally, I was free.

- That's awesome. I love the idea of growing wings by believing in yourself. Seems like you got some good stuff there.
