In the beginning
Twelve years past
We were the same
No difference in class
Learning the basics
A homogeneous mass
None as enemies
Making friends fast
Five years flew by
When we changed a bit
Defined what we liked
Ignored what didn't fit
Hovered 'round certain people
And together would sit
But still kept open
To those less close-knit
Middle years came
Met some new folk
Brought groups together
To share the yolk
Of looking at others
And having fun to poke
Cliques banding as one
Making others a joke
Then we arrived
A mere four years past
Already in groups
Keeping the rest in tow
Having our fun
Watching the same show
Snobs at the top
Making others feel low
The years would pass by
Who would ever think
That life was smoking
And when you would drink
With whom all the same
Your friend pool a sink
You'd laugh about anything
You got in a link
Now I must ask
At the end of this road
When we will set out
In full college mod
Will your mind sing out
to your comrades an ode
to respect your old friend
You made into a toad?
- Title: Friendship?
- Artist: yamsick
- Description: This is a poem I wrote for my American Literature class. It details how people progress from a young age of everyone being friends with everyone to the senior year of high school where friends go by cliques based on smoking weed and drinking.
