The path of life has wound
through over and around
footsteps wear deep into the dirt
and ruts become bare
First comes Independence,
a sapling that grows throughout a story
and as it progresses
from sapling to tree
as does its people, the people "we"
Then comes conflict, of morals and strife
a scarlet letter in history
born on each wife.
Unsure how to respond
the path continues on
the letter following close
disguised in a ruse
On and on the path travels
deep into woods
wearing thin on souls
And so we reach an even larger bend
where those left behind are left to fend
skin color debated, life measured in coin
those who are fated, and should not be,
torn
We live in a world whose turns never end
whose paths are worn,
as we tread them again
Each stick snaps
as countless feet step
the path of life we wander
along an endless wrap
