• The dusky early morning light
    Shining dully across my floor
Bird song and wings take flight
    A night of sleep, forgotten

    The third day now
    Of my wakeful state
My mind will keep as I allow
    But the gears are rusty

    Screaming and burning
    “My brain is on fire!”
    Thought’s restless and churning
Of death, and what I need

    Three nights without my cure
    Three nights without rest
I stand and look in the mirror
And the bags tell my tale

    So I muster a smile
And Cover Girl hides the evidence
    I know I’ll be a wake for a while
    But for now, I’m clean.
