The moon rose
Illuminating the sky
With its ominous glow,
Casting shadows beneath it.
As night fell
Over the forest below,
And blackened the path,
Which led outside,
A figure shifted,
Making subtle movements,
Hidden by the trees;
Giants shielding the monster from sight.
In the center of the forest
A large meadow
Opened up into the sky,
Glowing brightly by moonlight.
The figure focused his eyes,
Sparkling like rubies
By the ray of the moon,
Upon a being
Lost in the meadow.
A woman stood,
Desperately hoping for an exit
A way out of
The shadowed woods.
Crystal tears flowed
From sapphire eyes.
She whipped her hair
Revealing the bare skin
Of her fair neck.
The lurking beast
Held his breath
To slow his unbeating heart,
As his keen ears
Clearly heard
The beating of
Her human heart.
A longing swelled
Inside the monster,
An insatiable thirst.
He wanted her,
To drink of her,
To drain her.
The creature moved
With the fluidity of water,
Moving too fast,
A blur to the woman,
Making no sound
But the rustle
Of the wind.
In an instant
He stood behind
The defenseless girl.
A gasp of air
Escaped her breast
As the beast
Clutched her waist.
He pulled her close
Against his body,
And she shivered
From the icy touch
Of his stone cold skin.
This being nuzzled
The girl’s neck,
Taking in
The aroma that was
Her life,
Her soul,
Her being.
Her heart beat quickened
As terror struck
Her fragile body,
She tightened her frame
And fought the fear that was
Him.
He held her fast
In his able hands,
Gentle but firm.
His hold was strong,
And struggle was futile.
As he pulled her in,
The beast could smell
The sweet perfume
Of the fluid
Coursing through her veins.
It was quick.
He pierced her neck
With the canines
Endowed to him,
Created to end life,
He drained the sentience
From the helpless
Girl.
The heart pulsed
One final thump,
And lay silent,
Forever and more.
The beast withdrew,
And discarded the
Lifeless body,
Cold and alone.
His hunger had been
Satisfied,
And for the moment
He would rest,
Disappearing
Into the shadows
Of his homey giants.
No one would know
What had passed this night,
Save for
The figure,
And the light
Of the omnipresent
Moon.

- Description: Demons linger in the dark corners of the world. We see them everyday, but the world keeps itself turning by telling us all that we hallucinated. We are not the dreamers. Perhaps the world should open its eyes, and see as we do.
