    Behind the shimmering, shining, mirrored monoliths,
    Behind ragged streets, Behind the ruined hotel,
    Behind the empty, expelled, decrepit, depressing projects
    Lies the face of this city,
    Lies the hurried whores,
    Lies the poshed pimps,
    Lies the jaundiced johns,
    Lies the defeated dealers,
    Lies the usual users,
    Lies the destitute, damned, broken, beaten, shattered, selfish, hopeless, hapless
    hated
    face of this city.
    Oh, behind glorious uptown.
