Sitting by myself,
Alone in the bed in the office,
Laptop on my knees,
Doing the work required
For the next day.
My mom keeps a vigil,
Like a blind pit bull,
Seeing only my work,
Looking over my mind,
Oblivious to silent distractions getting in my way
I don’t want to be here,
I want to be asleep,
I want to float away and get lost,
I never want to think again.
But I can’t float away just yet,
When there’s so much I still have to do.
Focus is the only thing getting in the way of finishing
I don’t want to focus,
I want to play,
I want to go somewhere, anywhere,
I think anything’s better that this
But I can’t leave just yet,
When there’s so much to be done,
I catch myself quickly.
Focus.
My mom sits across the room,
Playing Bejeweled,
Keeping a vigil,
She would never understand
What makes the task so difficult,
Doing the work required
For the next day.
