Recall, recall the day I lost my light,
And now I wonder if I had been played
For happiness has never been my right
Was once a smile, exceptionally bright
But whose it was, the face, from me it fades
Recall, recall the day I lost my light.
Alas, there was no time to say good night
As in the end ‘twas all made naught by blade
For happiness has never been my right
Remember did they cry and did he fight?
Was he a she, the ruby gem a jade?
Recall, recall the day I lost my light
And now just red and black left to my sight
While deeper into water do I wade
For happiness has never been my right
Forgotten voices echo like a blight
Yet for this past is nothing I would trade
Recall, recall the day I lost my light,
For happiness has never been my right
