I liked their OLD movies... not a lot of the newer ones. I think I stopped liking them in particular after Tarzan, one of the last movies where Disney actually killed a character.

Disney went downhill after... after Treasure Planet, I think. :/. I don't know, I guess as you grow up you pay less attention to that.... All I know is that it just doesn't seem as... wholesome as it was before.

I agree, Silver. I want to see the noir version of Beauty and the Beast again. :3

I want to go back and see Beauty and the Beast on Broadway.

Which reminds me, Beauty and the Beast is our spring musical at school. And I KNOW my school will screw it up.

I think they just tried to cushion kids too much, they stopped killing characters cause that would be too violent for the kiddies and well.. I dunno it went downhill. I think part is they completely ran out of ideas

Meh, it's just not the same anymore... now kid's shows are all about hip-hop and teen drama and bad writing. Disney or not. Bleh.

A thought on Beauty and the Beast... The Beast is given a magical rose after turning away the witch, which will bloom until his twenty-first year. The castle has been isolated since then for ten years ("for ten years we've sat rusting, needing so much more than dusting...") Even taking exaggeration into account, that means Beast was between 11 and 14, say, when he (and his staff) were cursed. A little harsh, maybe? wink

"The usual... flowers... chocolates... promises you don't intend to keep..."

Ah, gosh, I remember that line... X3.

I think it's the more mature humor, as well, that made those old movies special....

*eye twitch as she is reminded of One Piece* and then of course stupid americans make a really good pirate anime into a bunch of freakin gangster talking idiots with a rap song at the beginning because hey, it'll appeal to kids better that way *destroys 4Kids* DIE DIE DIE!!!

@Aretoo O_O I hadn't realized that, that IS harsh

I'm actually really eager to see what John Lassiter has in mind now that he's in charge of Disney feature animation... (for those who don't know, John Lassiter was the driving force behind the last decade of Pixar movies, which I adore... even the ones I'm kinda iffy about [say, for example, Cars])

Aretoo, please tell me you didn't just realise this now?

I figured that years ago...

Edit: My nephew LOVES Cars. I got my nice magically into Beauty and the Beast, though. I have no idea how.

I think the reason Pixar has come out with good movies is because they've got fresh ideas AND they're not trying to make it baby friendly but simply GOOD

No, no, Silver; I realized that when I first saw it in the theater... ^_^

Sanzo: that's one of the reasons when I watch Japanese animation, I try to get it in the original language, and use the subtitles. (Though Disney actually did a pretty good job with Miyazaki's movies for voice talent...)
