Grade 11 was mostly the World Wars here. You can look forward to studying that next year. Grade 9 we looked very deeply into the feudal system and how it influenced the world around it, and all that fun stuff. Then I didn't have to touch it again until I got to University.

I guess it makes sense for Alberta to have a unit on Russia with so many Ukrainians living out here. But we didn't focus on individual countries in high school, that was for elementary. We studied Japan in grade 7, Mexico in grade 5, and so on. Of course in BC, high school starts at grade 8.

Lemme think...when I was in middle school...7 and 8 grade, we had this thing called 'social studies' Basically it covered everything.

Sophomore year, we focused on Modern World History, and then Junior year focused on US History.

Senior year, you had to take US government, and Economics.

kind of lame...I'd much rather be in band all day...

This was all in social studies, throughout the various years. Those were just the main topics we focused on. We also studied the US economy at some point in grade 8 or 9. razz

We had some Canadian history every year. We also studied US history and European history as part of Social Studies, as well as politics and geography. I don't remember grade 8 socials very well because that was the year that my school decided to combine it with English and call the class Humanities... and then I dropped out near the start of the third quarter and had only done half of Humanities, so I ended up finishing Socials and English by correspondence. I think we covered things like the rise and fall of the Greek and Roman empires then. Grade 9 was European and North American history from the middle ages or something until around the eighteenth century. Grade 10 picked up where we left off, until the beginning of the 20th century. Grade 11 was almost entirely focussed on the causes and effects of the World Wars and how they impacted the world politically and economically.

Also included in Social Studies: the different inventions in each time period and how they affected sociological changes in the world.

In grade 12, I was supposed to be allowed to choose between History, Geography, and Law for my Social Studies credit. Instead I move to Alberta and find that not only do I have to take general social studies again, but it is covering the exact same subject matter I did in grade 11. I hate Socials more than any other subject. I was looking forward to choosing something else. What a ripoff.
