Most of the US taxis I've taken have had a $16 minimum. The Mexican ones, on the other hand... We took that fricken' taxi everywhere and it only cost us about 25 pesos! Of course, they might drive you into a back alley, beat you, and take all of your money...

That's crazy...I have never used a taxi before..and with EVERYONE using taxis in movies ALL THE TIME...I thought they were like buses...only slightly more expensive...SLIGHTLY.
Sure movies != reality...but...damn...
Yeah...bus...it is...I'd walk but I have to carry too much...shopping etc.

It's also not very likely that a friend of your grandparents is going to beat and rob you... @Erius — It's not so bad if you can split the cost with a couple people, but, yeah, most assuredly something to avoid if possible...
