It increases the draw in a swinging motion...

Well, Paul, they're for my two little fox spirits.
The blue one at my feet is female.
Functional sabres are swept because those swords were made with the intention of making sweeping sword strokes and slashing rather than stabbing like rapiers.
That, and I think it helps reduce the amount of time it takes to draw the sword from the scabbard.

Then is that why a saber is good for colorguard? Cuase it's swept? And the whole "swinging motion" thing.

I'm pretty sure because it looks nice, and from what I hear a smidge more difficult than rifle.
I've seen some guards use straight sabres actually, so yeah ^_^
Linny, I'm pretty sure that's just a hair flip.
