GTR - he may have been called Adam, but like I said, I call him bob. He's a good friend of mine and he's fun to play poker with from time to time, but I have a feeling he cheats...

Hrmmm... I'm not too familiar with Ska, other than a simple brushover in my history classes. Was it traditionally a more dance-y genre, then transformed by artists during the punk period as more of a method of message-transmission?

I'll be back in a bit. I think I need to poop, then I'm going to try to run to the store and buy some smokes if I can borrow some money from my mom or brother.
Be back soon.

Ska has always been an open ended genre. It really encompasses any band that has Brass instruments in it that usually would not. I think it is a derivative of Rock though I'm not sure, I never really studied contemporary music.

see ya Pancake, I don't think I listen to enough Ska to help you with that Lin, since I've probably heard maybe two or three Ska songs in my entire life sweatdrop

From what I've listened to, it's a very rhythmically-complex genre, accenting the off-beats, making a lot of the music very very danceable. I think I better listen to some Ska canon before I listen to some indie Ska because some of the stuff I'm listening to now is definitely a fusion of Ska and other genres (as what already happened in the past).

It's not really a genre I'm really familiar with. I like a few different groups that get classified as "ska", but I don't know how true to the genre they are.
Reel Big Fish, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Save Ferris...Even early No Doubt was pretty ska-influenced.

With the mixing of genres I wouldn't be surprised if they are taking some ska influences (particularly because Ska rhythms are just so damn fun).
Wow... This band has some improvisation solos in it. heart Either that or it's an incredibly improvised-feel solo line.
