If you read the prolouge, which describes the grandmother's life, she's not bad or evil.
Summary: (I don't think it's a spoiler, I just outlined the book, but don't read if you don't want.)She marries Malcom expecting love, but of course he has none. She adores her children and is deeply hurt when Corrine and Chris fall in love. So she decides to harden her life. She is then twisted and manipulated by her cousin, John Amos, into believing that keeping the four kids locked up is right.

So, no one hasn't gotten back to me on my German assignment. It's really starting to piss me off. What I think I'll do is turn it in late, say I wasn't prepared when it comes to the presentation and that'll be that. *Grumbles.* I'm just so fed up with people that's it's not even funny.

you could try talking to the teacher about how you were really sick and if she could give you some extra time to work on things

Lawl, I love how you repeated what my mom just got done telling me not even five minutes ago. I'm just so fed up at this point that I really don't care; however, I'm sure I'll point it out to my teacher in the morning.
*Sighs.* I'm ready for another nap. All this ranting and whining and yelling really has drained me down.

Extremely.
The house is a ******** mess because Paul is apparently a huge slob. My net is slow, because it isn't my net. I had a horrible day at work. And the house is full of strangers who keep sniffing like they're either sick or cokeheads.
