Because it makes absolutely no sense phonetically, and no one knows how to pronounce it unless I tell them. And then they still insist on calling me Tay.

My mind must be a strange one indeed because I've always pronounced it that way. I took one look at your name and said immediately, "Tie!" Mind you, "Tae," but whatever. x3
I know little kids piss me off when they have the gall to call me "Assley" instead of "Ashley."

I think its just the line up of vowels and the double yy just throws people. I happened to have had a decent few years of an actual phonics work book in grammar school so I have a decent background in phonics. But even so its one of those subjects that many people just don't get.
I sometimes have to actually stop to think about how things aught to be pronounced. Like wry, its pronounced rahy. I just made up my own way of saying it and didn't learn how to say it right till recently. ><
