Ah, they're being tricksy...
My brother still has his calculus text from college. He refused to sell it back because they were going to pay him $6 for something that he payed $85 for. They said that his textbook was out of date because a new revision had come out. The new text basically took the old one and broke it into two volumes...
That same bookstore, the next semester, sold the old, used ones for $50 and included a page conversion sheet. stare

Yup. I'm really looking forward to ceramics class, I haven't done any pottery in YEARS.
EDIT: Wow, that's bull. I would get pissed. perhaps he could have put a bulletin out, and possibly sell it for, I dunno, $35-$40?

He could have, Rol, but he kept it out of principle.
He also had a professor that required that you have a new text for his class. If he found out that yours was used he would reduce your grade. Of course, that particular professor wrote the text and was paid royalties on the text... >.>

goes to show how some people only care about getting as much money from college students as possible not about giving them an actual education

Wow. Just... Wow. Where the hell was this?
And yes, some colleges are like that. Most high schools are like that as well.

St. Cloud State University, Rol.
@Sanzo — The thing is, he still would have gotten royalties for the used ones, just not as much. Like 1% as opposed to 3%. rolleyes

That's what a friend of mine did, the used price for my digital imaging II book was $42. He sold it to me for $30

Except that when a book is sold in a bookstore (used or new) the author gets a bit of money off from the sale, or is supposed to. So if you cut out the bookstore entirely, you shaft the author a little...
Otherwise it's a great idea. biggrin
