you say you don't like slasher movies but isn't that basically what Saw is? minus the actual slasher? Maybe I'm wrong, I'll admit I haven't watched it but it looks like the entire movie is watching these people get killed... I just find that ironic

People can no longer cover their eyes.
No, Saw isn't a slasher movie. Basically, these people are kidnapped by Jigsaw for whatever injustice he feels they have done, then gives them a chance to "redeem" themselves, which usually involves mind games and maiming themselves.
If this disturbs you, then walk away.

*sigh* its the maiming themselves part I'm talking about, basically slasher movies are people getting chopped up, hacked, or killed in some horrible way which is what I see in Saw, whether its an actual killer doing the maiming is beside the point for me

I tried watching one of the Saw movies—not to sure which one—but I just couldn't... I barely made it through Hostel... I just don't get them. I'm not repulsed the way Tae is, I just don't find myself entertained enough to stay with them...
@Rol — But it's the same basic concept: Take Person A, let Person A suffer psychologically and physically, show Person A's suffering in a graphic manner.

Hmm I don't really dig a lot of these horror movies... Only so much torture porn and slasher flicks and remakes I can watch before I start to just...tune it out.

Yes, saw does have a bit of gore in it, but not all of them. Some are worse than others. and its usually only short bursts of it, not drawn out. But the story of Saw is fantastic. Thats why I like it and put up with a bit of gore here and there.

Well, Saw is kinda... different. You have to think ALOT during the movie otherwise you kinda get lost. The good thing though is that it will explain it at the end. Anyway, There's a lot more to it than the maiming and death.
If this disturbs you, then walk away.

I'm not saying it doesn't have a good story (mostly cause I haven't seen it and wouldn't know) but that it has a lot of maiming in it. No matter what else, if there's a lot of maiming and death it falls under slasher movie to me. I think Tsuji stated it quite nice and simply.
@Ala I can't stand pointless torture and slash, its just... ugh

@Sanzo - I find I only enjoy it in the right setting. Like watching a series of movies with Freddy and Jason and Chucky on Halloween might be okay. Especially if you're drunk while watching... Alcohol improves almost everything xp

No I wouldn't say its like a slasher at all. There isn't a murderer going around popping out to kills the next random blonde bimbo. IT's people caught in sophistocated traps which dont always involve maiming. Sometimes they just get shot, or poisoned, its not always about the maiming, heck the first movie no one actually died. The worst part was when the dude cut off his foot, that was the only violence really.

lol I had a bad experience with Chucky as well. I snuck into the living room while my mom and aunt were watching it... I saw this woman pick him up and then he went crazy. I freaked out and ran back into the bedroom...but, my grandmother collects clown stuff and used to be a clown too. She had this curly orange wig in that room... Needless to say, didn't get much sleep that night...and I'm only grateful it wasn't IT they had on that night lol

ok Laz hunny are you purposely ignoring the part where I said that I don't care if there's an actual killer only that they're pointlessly maimed for it to qualify as a slasher for me? I will give you the second part of your statement, fine maybe the first one wasn't exactly a slasher, what about the rest?
edit: @Ala, oh don't even get me started on IT >< the biggest reason clowns freak me out

From the people I've talked to, it seems IT is responsible for a lot of ..clownphobia lol But, I didn't see that movie until I was old enough to not be bothered by it... And my grandmother and mom used to dress me up as a clown at a very young age. So, I've sorta always ...liked clowns. Grew up with them xp
