He experienced what can be described as a supernatural experience or something. I won't tell you because it's his story, but... the fact that he's on a military base reminds me of "The Stand" Which had "Don't Fear (The Reaper)" in the beginning.

And considering that Pi is practically never ending and non repeating, I wouldn't doubt that eventually somewhere down the line all of our birthdays would be listed.

That is exactly right, it's just a matter of calculating it far enough to find those numbers. For example I was unable to find a Pi search engine that calculated far enough to find 05291986, Simply because it's such a large sequence.
