I hate reading serieseseseses (how to you pluralize that word? D: ) that aren't finished. I end up reading them over again every time a new book comes out, and some of them just aren't good enough for me to want to read them seven times.

Also, what is the Wardstone Chronicles about?
PostPosted: Wed Aug 17, 2011 7:42 pm
It's not about a wardstone, at least not yet, and I'm on book 7. I think the series might actually be called something else now, but I downloaded a torrent.

It's by Joseph Delaney, and it's about a Spook and his apprentice. A spook is apparently someone whose job it is to deal with supernatural creatures or disturbances. It's implied that it's set in England, either in an alternative universe, the past, or even the distant future, after some kind of ice age. I think it's purposely left vague.

Anyway, in each book, they tackle a different creature or challenge, but the overarching plot involves the decline of the Spook and the rise of his apprentice, as well as a fight against evil gods and the devil himself.

It's a young adult series, so it's an easy read, but very enjoyable.

That sounds pretty interesting. And I recognize the name of the author. Maybe I'll check it out sometime. :3

Have you read anything by R. A. Salvatore? I think I'm starting the Dark Elf trilogy once I finish the Spook books.

I also have a random Terry Pratchett book sitting on my shelf, but I think it's part of a series, so I'd rather not start in the middle. sweatdrop I've heard nothing but good things about him, though.

What book is it?
Being someone who's read the entire Discworld series over half a dozen times, i have a pretty good idea what all the books are about xd
A lot of his books can be read as stand-alones, but they do make a bit more sense if you've read the other ones in the character arc (Wizards/Rincewind/Witches/Watch being the big ones) or overall timeline.

It's called The Fifth Elephant, I think.

You should be able to read it without getting lost.
There's some politics in it that might not make sense, but I don't think it would be too much of a problem.

I am seriously considering tackling everything on that Top 100 list, just...for some sort of goal. I don't really feel like I have any attainable goals or ideas at the moment, and that's something I think would be both beneficial and something plausible.

I got distracted with dinner. But no, never read anything by R. A. Salvatore. Right now I'm reading Humans by Robert J. Sawyer. It's part of a series about two parallel universes, one where Homo sapiens are dominant on earth, and one where homo Neanderthalensis is dominant, and in a accident involving a quantum computer, a Neanderthal from the other world slips into our dimension. It's fascinating.

Huh. That does sound interesting. Wherefore must there be so many books and so little time in which to read them?

I know, right? D: That's basically the problem of my life right now. "You should read this book", "You should watch this show", "You should watch this movie", and I'm like "THERE'S NO TIME HJBFHIUFHSIJF".

There are very few movies or shows that I want to watch right now, so that helps. x3
Criminal Minds, Game of Thrones, and True Blood are really the only things I watch. Conveniently, they all air at different times of the year.

Ooo, that is very convenient. biggrin I'm very inconsistent with my show watching. I've never, ever, watched an entire season of a show as it aired on TV. So I download and watch things on my own time. Usually in mass spurts. Don't watch for a long time, then rip through two seasons in a week.

There are so very, very few things airing right now that interest me. It's like, crime show, supernatural soap opera, reality show about (insert random job here), or fluffy show about losing weight/marriage/baked goods.

Nothanks.

Yeah, pretty much. razz I like Criminal Minds and NCIS. I watch them whenever they happen to be on. The ones I have downloaded are Big Bang Theory, Brotherly Love, Dexter, Doctor Who, Flight of the Conchords, Glee, Red Dwarf, and Supernatural. And a couple romantic animes too, haha. xD
