I dunno if this counts as "eating healthier," but I'm trying to work on maintaining a 1100-1200 calorie diet to curb an eating disorder, and I never realized until now how low-calorie vegetarian diets are. gonk

Myself, I almost never eat red meat, but I do eat a lot of poultry and fish in comparison to the average Floridian. I'm surprised some people can eat as much heavy food as they do in the heat. Not to mention that red meat isn't really the easiest thing for a stomach to process... it takes a lot of energy just to burn through that kind of food.

Edit: Also, nuts, seeds, and fiberous foods are good sources of protein and amino acids in place of meat. razz

I have yet to learn to cook meal very well. When I first tried reintroducing meat into my diet, I think I wasted several meals by severely overcooking the meat. Blech. If I cook it at all now, it's edible, but it's not the best.

Similarly, my little brother's first forays into vegetarian cooking weren't very tasty. (Cabbage "stew" with beans and lentils and turnip, cooked until it was a grey mush.... emotion_puke )

It was. He's gotten better, though.

It's his turn to cook tomorrow, and he's making veggie tacos. biggrin

Hmmm, just make sure that you get all the nutrients that you need, Kerri! I've known people trying to go vegetarian or vegan who weren't balancing their diets right and... yeah, you can tell. Get all your iron and things and good luck! heart

I think the best I could do if I tried vegetarianism would be fish-eggs-dairy.
There are some really tasty vegetarian dishes, though! biggrin

And yep, Tae and Yunie say "grocery" like a lot of people I know do. I'm just the odd one out. Like, does anyone else I know say it like I do? Oh well. I am an accent of my own! biggrin

I've found that many of the people who struggle to meet their nutritional needs as a vegetarian often don't have balanced diets to begin with, or are very fussy eaters. razz

*shrug* Yeah, I can see that.

Just got my grades for the past semester and whoo! I actually did really well, even in the class I felt like I was totally bullshitting xp Didn't get my Japanese grade up from the first semester, but at least it didn't go down.
Japanese is so hard! And I'm going to need to get to know the teacher and make her like me this next year since I'll be applying to study abroad soon and I'll need teacher recommendations... but she kinda intimidates me =x

I'm more of a fish-dairy-eggs type of vegetarian, admittedly. My doctor was still really concerned about testing my iron levels though.

On a different topic, I decided to start giving a s**t about X-Men again, right? And HOLY s**t. I have just seen Rogue's new costume in legacy and now all I want to do is make it.

I've never understood the whole "I'm a vegetarian that eats fish" thing. Not that there's anything wrong with that kind of diet, it just seems like an oxymoron. blaugh I'm assuming it's borne out of not wanting to say "I'm not vegetarian, but I don't eat red meat, pork, or poultry", which is understandable, since that's a real mouthful.

Pescatarian: those who are primarily vegetarian, but also consume fish/seafood.

i think it was because for a while, people were convinced that fish don't feel pain, so I guess that meant people thought they didn't count.

I'm not sure what level of awareness fish have, but I would definitely put their intelligence on par with that of a chicken.

I don't personally think there's anything wrong with eating meat, although if I had to kill my own food, I don't think I could do it.

The only reason I stopped eating meat is that I think that modern food processing is disgusting. I would like my food ammonia free, please. From what I know, fish aren't subject to as much chemical processing,

That's a big part of why I still don't eat meat. Unfortunately, in my region, the fishing industry can be just as problematic as other meat industries. Overfishing and unsustainable fishing practices have led to huge problems with our local marine environment, and fish farms cause a great deal of ecological damage as well.

These days, it sort of seems like with any food, you're damned if you do and damned if you don't, so you might as well just eat what's good for you. xp

Why did/do people not think fish feel pain? That's just... silly.

Oh, I'll have to look at Rogue's Legacy costume! I like X-Men, but I'm pretty casual in most of my comics because there are so many going on all at once and all xp

I get a job for the summer. Whoo!

Rogue's Legacy costume is so gooood. Except that the artists are making me really really angry. Great design guys, but someone that actively avoids contact with others, and therefore has had a history of costumes that cover her entirely, is not going to suddenly wear her shirt zipped down and reveal her boobs. Just, not going to happen.
