Few days late but... Happy New Year's you guys! May it be less shitty than 2013. Because I'm pretty sure 2013 was terrible for everyone I know.

I've had much shittier years than 2013. 2013 was mostly groundwork for me, making sure I'm in the right place to move forwards with my life. 2014 will kick a** because I will MAKE IT SO.

ALL THE VIDEO GAMES!!!!

But for real though, my best friend gave me Diablo III for Christmas and I can't stop.

"Josh this is still like a $60 game."
"Shut up I need someone to play with."

And so my social life died

Eh, I didn't much care for Diablo III. I just couldn't get into it, and the always online thing just annoyed the hell out of me, and though I don't think that is still the case. Game just doesn't have the same longevity of Diablo II.
Btw, happy new year everyone.

This is the 360 version so the always online thing isn't really a factor for me. I shamefully never played the first or second, but the story is really interesting and I feel really compelled to.

I'm really caught up in all the silly challenges .Like finding all the books and stuff, or exploring the maps and dungeons in an act. Getting all the events. Etc. There are some things that from the perspective of a game design student are astounding and fascinating. I'm having a really good time going through the game slowly and really examining everything,

THAT SAID, holy hell it's been a long time since I've seen you around

I looked at my history just now and realized I hadn't made a post outside this guild since 2008. Dunno about inside of it (I know I made like, one post somewhere in between now and then), but yeah, been a loooooong time.

Maybe it plays out better on the consoles, but it was quite annoying on the PC. I thought the game play itself was alright, so I may give it another chance sometime down the line. I may also have been affected by playing it with my wife, who didn't enjoy it at all.

Overall though, hate DRM. Ruined one of my favorite franchises (Sim City). Though I suppose it wasn't just DRM that did that...

Yeah, I'm not a huge fan of DRM. I understand it from a business perspective, to a degree, but I wish they'd put a little more effort into finding a solution.

We talked about Diablo III for a little while in one of my game design courses last semester. From what I could tell, people seemed to think that over all is was vastly improved on consoles. Of course consoles don't have the power or graphics capabilities that PC's do, but it seems like the mechanics and bugs were smoothed out some. I haven't played the PC version so I'll have to try it at some point and see for myself.

I've been playing it solo thus far. I don't have an Xbox Live subscription and I refuse to let Josh pay for mine after giving me a $60 ******** game. So until I've got some money solo it is. It's a little grindier than I like, which I imagine is BECAUSE I'm playing strictly solo. I think from a design point, dynamic maps and random chances of event spawning was a good decision to combat boredom in level grinding.

TOTALLY OFF TOPIC< BUT. Before I forget anyone want to see my super rad tattoo?

You ask this expecting someone to say no? blaugh

Anyway, the dynamic map changing and random mini boss spawns are a staple of the Diablo series, and I agree, really improves the games re-playability factor. How else would game developers expect us to go through the same basic storyline 3-4 times (or more if you want to use different characters).

Nice. And my favorite suit of cards to boot. Good choice of tattoo artist, think he did a really good job.

I love Emily. She's super nice, very considerate of her clients' comfort, extrmely patients, and really cool. She owns a pretty well known (locally at least) games and card shop with her husband.
