I got called a lesbian once for saying I was a feminist I think it may be because when you say the word "feminism" it seems more like your for females being treated better then males, rather then equal treatment of both sides, which is what the original feminism movement was about. I personally don't consider femals wanting equal rights for female and males feminists, but rather equalitists. It makes more sence to me to say it that way, and your less likely to have someone confuse you for a feminazi 3nodding Feminism was never about women have MORE rights than men but about having the same rights. I'm proud to be a feminist, despite the bad femnazi's who ruin it for us >< There's plenty of things about this society that isn't equal. Like the idea that men can't be raped. Men CAN be raped, it is perfectly possible for a man to be raped by another man or even by a woman. I'd just like to be free to say "hey I'm a feminist" without all the negative feedback Your getting that negitive feedback because, though Feminism at one time was understood to be a movement for equal rights of Females, it's been twisted itno something quite different in recent years. Why fight it when there are better ways to describe what you are without the negitive connotations? Just makes more sence to me. And I agree with you on the things that aren't equal in society for either side...thats why I say if you support equality, then be a equalitist. Not only does it describe your fight for equality, but all around equality of everyone. I understand what you mean I do but I don't think I should have to change what I call myself just because some idiot is narrow minded enough to follow the negative connotations to it. The only reason its been twisted to something so bad is because of the extremists who NO ONE likes. Personally, I think that if you are going to wear a label, you should be willing to take the good with the bad. I wouldn't mind the bad so much if it wasn't practically always forced that I fall into the bad as well. Err... wait I don't think that made sense. What I mean is when I show that I'm NOT part of the bad and they keep insisting that I am or begin to act like just because you are that label you HAVE to have the bad... that pisses me off
