I've played for a total of 12 years... I'm a bit rusty... but hopefully a break from the Western classical tradition will unrust my skills.

I play violin... and I'm a synth player. Not good at either, and my violin has been broken for a while. I can't find anywhere to get it fixed.
...I can't sing at all... and of course Sanzo isn't here when I need her.

I don't know, Celes... spend some time with me and I think I could help you - or anyone else - sing for pleasure.
After all... why do people say they can't sing and essentially musik when, in my opinion, everyone should be able to?

Pfft, in my opinion my singing sounds terrible. Next time I'm at my friend's house I'll ask if I can use her microphone and I'll put up an example.

Hmmm... in my studies I've realized that saying that one cannot sing is psychological rather than an actual bodily defect. Anyone can sing with some simple training and songs that are simply fun to sing.

Well, my friends say I have a great singing voice but... I wouldn't be so sure about that.

It's really about what you think, Celes-san. Singing, musiking, any art in general is about finding the best way to express oneself. I'm not a writer but sometimes writing poetry or prose or something - even though my writing is (in my opinion) half-assed and terrible - is the only effective way I can express an idea or thought. Sometimes... music is the most effective way to express and I feel that feeling that you have a bad singing voice shouldn't affect that.
Everyone has a voice... everyone can sing. Don't care about if you sing good or bad. Just do it. Just musik.

Well, I suppose all of that is true. If there's one thing that I'm actually proud of it's my writing. While some of it is pure and total crap, most of it is pretty decent.
Music is a great way to express things, that's why I write lyrics and then try and come up with some music for them.

It's very good that you feel that, Celes. Because... well... I suppose that being a future music educator I have a bias for the arts. biggrin

Hiya!
I'd have to say... not *everyone* can sing tunefully. I work with a woman who, while she can keep in tune with an instrument, and while she has had some vocal training, can't carry a tune in a bucket. It's really interesting singing next to her... *shudder* wink I will say, though, that she is an *enthusiastic* singer... mrgreen
